Graduate-student-led academic journals play a crucial role in fostering early career researchers' engagement with scholarly discourse within the field of Library and Information Science (LIS). This paper highlights the significance of these journals by examining their contributions to professional development, peer review practices, and inclusivity. Through a case study of the Student Research Journal (SRJ) at San Jose State University’s iSchool, I demonstrate how student-led journals provide invaluable experiential learning opportunities in leadership, organization, and research skills. In 2017, the Chester Fritz Library launched our institutional repository, the UND Scholarly Commons. Our first publication was an open access edition of The History of North Dakota, a widely used state history book that we purchased the rights to publish digitally. After receiving scans of the print book from the publisher, we created PDF, EPUB, and MOBI versions of the book and disseminated it widely across OER indexing platforms.

Cancelling The "Big Deal" At A Public University: A Discussion Of Stem Faculty Perceptions Of Cancellation And An Examination Of Post-Cancellation Usage Data, Amanda Mccormick, Erin Rowley

This article discusses how faculty, staff, and students at the University at Buffalo (UB), a public Carnegie R1 university, were impacted by the cancellation of the Elsevier ScienceDirect Big Deal package. After the cancellation, UB participated in a multi-site study which included interviewing faculty about the effect of the cancellation on their research and teaching. In general, the faculty were supportive of the cancellation. There was frustration expressed with the current structure of the publishing industry, particularly with the exorbitant pricing of journal subscriptions. Later analysis of usage data at UB post-cancellation was conducted; unsurprisingly, the data showed a decrease …

Feasibility Of Technical Solutions For The Detection Of Falsified Images In Research, Phill Jones, Hylke Koers

In this report, we discuss the findings of an investigation into the feasibility of developing a research image integrity system. The focus was primarily on immunohistochemistry blots and microscopy images, although the findings are relevant to other types of research images such as gel blots and spectroscopy, geophysical, or astronomical images, as well as to any digital data type. The investigation comprised a mix of desk research and semi-structured (anonymized) interviews with nine stakeholders representing publishers, researchers, technologists, and microscopy companies.

Two library professionals, a technical services librarian and an Archivist, describe their workflows during a system migration to OCLC Worldshare Management Systems from multiple existing systems at Lincoln Memorial University Carnegie Vincent Library. The migration was difficult at times and had some unexpected outcomes, but the end result was excellent for the students and the faculty of the university. The librarian and archivist provide suggestions to help other librarians and archivists during the process of a migration. Challenges And Opportunities In Providing Academic Library Services To Incarcerated Higher Education Students: A Case Study From A Tennessee State Prison, Ryan Yoakum, Caroline Fleming

This case study describes the Belmont University Library’s partnership with a Tennessee men’s prison to provide access to higher education. The program has led to challenges relating to communication, circu-lation, cataloging, and collection development. These library services are necessary to provide students with access to information not only for their academic endeavors, but also for their own well-being and growth. This paper explores possible solutions to the information deficit of incarcerated students and how the library can support the needs of an underserved population.

Restructuring And Upgradation Of The Dspace-Based Institutional Repository Of Cept University Library: A Case Study, Namrata Dobariya, Gayatri Doctor Dr.

Purpose: This paper aims to present a strategic overview of the restructuring of the CEPT repository structure, maintaining and upgrading its software for continuous access improved services.

Method: The process of restructuring and upgrading CEPT University Library's repository to DSpace 7 involved identifying the need for technical proficiency, establishing a new server, configuring the repository, migrating existing data while preparing metadata. Furthermore, data in the new storage hierarchy was restructured, and SSL integration with Shibboleth was implemented.

Result: The paper highlights the benefits and outcomes of the restructuring process, emphasizing the enhanced accessibility, discoverability, and preservation of scholarly works.
