Working over a span of nearly eight years, the University of Michigan Library received three grants from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to generously fund CRMS, a cooperative effort by partner research libraries to identify books in the public domain in HathiTrust. In CRMS- US (2008– 11), CRMS reviewed over 170,000 volumes in the HathiTrust Digital Library that were published in the United States between 1923 and 1963 (“CRMS- US”). That first project team— which included reviewers from the University of Michigan, the University of Wisconsin, the University of Minnesota, and Indiana University— identified nearly 87,000 volumes …

This report identifies ways through which subscription-based scholarly journals have converted their publishing models to open access (OA). The major goal was to identify specific scenarios that have been used or proposed for transitioning subscription journals to OA so that these scenarios can provide options for others seeking to “flip” their journals to OA. The report is based on the published literature as well as “gray” literature such as blog posts and press releases. In addition, interviews were conducted with eight experts in scholarly publishing. Data sharing has incredible potential to strengthen academic research, the practice of medicine, and the integrity of the clinical trial system. Some benefits are obvious: when researchers have access to complete data, they can answer new questions, explore different lines of analysis, and more efficiently conduct large-scale analyses across trials. The purpose of this study is to document the surviving musical compositions of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. The repositories in London containing each monarch’s remaining body of musical work were examined and the compositions themselves studied. Research was conducted to give further details about each document and its history within the Tudor monarchs’ lives.

Folklore can be defined as “context, performance, attitude, cultural tastes, and the like” (Toelken, 1996, p.7). With folktale and fairy tales, these stories embody cultural values and morals, aiding in learning a lesson or to keep intact a cultural tradition. Many works of literature serve as models for studies in folklore, offering literary criticism, while allowing ancient traditions and modern traditions to be explored (Toelken, 1996, p. 391). Additionally, most, if not all, written folklore, folktales, and fairy tales were originally passed down verbally, from one generation to the next; these stories are part of oral histories (Toelken, 1996). Mississippi has a place in the history of library science. Although libraries appeared in the state as early as 1818 (Halsell, 1975), training for librarians was not available until 1926 at the State Teacher’s College in Hattiesburg, later renamed The University of Southern Mississippi. Southern Miss awarded its first master’s degree in library science exactly fifty years ago, in 1965.

This talk is an expanded version of one given at the 2015 MOBIUS conference. Washington University librarians Emily Stenberg and Lauren Todd explain how they created and manage a collection in the university’s repository Open Scholarship for the Computer Science and Engineering department. This presentation will highlight how they developed a step-by-step workflow, addressed customization requests from the department, what really happened once that plan was implemented, and how they handle Bepress troubleshooting and faculty concerns. The presenters will also discuss how this project has helped them offer Open Scholarship as a service to other engineering faculty.

California’s three public higher education systems (University of California, California State University, the California Community College System) enroll nearly 3 million undergraduate students and employ almost 100 thousand faculty. In 2012, the California State Legislature directed the three systems to create an online library of open educational resources to encourage the use of free or affordable textbooks and other materials throughout California’s public higher education system.
