OSI’s 2019 work focused on building a bridge to 2020—continuing our pivot from being an organization focused on understanding facts and perspectives, to one poised to pursue a significant, global reform agenda. This is a challenge for any group—doubly so for a group like OSI at the pioneering edge of a nebulous field, while also trying to maintain a republic format where all participants are co-equal leaders. OSI’s strategy in 2019 focused primarily on these three agenda items:

1. Find sustainable financing.

2. Help coordinate the construction of a new global roadmap for open.

Touro University Libraries Publications and Research

This case study describes the library’s experience of collaborating with an undergraduate Psychology Department at Touro College to integrate open textbooks into their program. We discuss the pedagogical changes as well as explore the impact of Open Educational Resources (OER) on students’ savings, their academic outcomes and perceptions of OER. Furthermore, we highlight the successes and shortcomings in having the library as a central OER partner. To measure the results, we surveyed students and conducted a faculty survey and a focus group, in addition to analyzing the students’ final grades. This pilot program delivered strong results. The Research Repository @ WVU was launched in October 2018 to serve as the institutional repository for West Virginia University and a corner stone of the WVU Libraries Scholarly Communications & Publishing Program. The repository collects, preserves, and showcases creative and scholarly works from WVU faculty, staff, and students and makes them available to readers worldwide.

This report highlights the growth and impact of the Research Repository since its launch in October 2018. Statistics reported are accurate as of November 30, 2020.

An examination of research participation, career progression and perceptions across the globe.

As part of Elsevier’s ongoing efforts to promote gender diversity and advance gender equity in research using an evidence-based approach, we developed this latest report to understand how gender impacts the researcher journey. Drawing on robust data sets, we analyzed information about authors of academic publications, grant recipients and patent applicants to gain insights into trends in gender-based representation across 15 countries and the EU28.

The implementation of Coastal Carolina University’s Data Management Services program is explored in this presentation. Our library continued to see growth in data management support requests from researchers, so we felt the need to programmatically develop data management services to serve those needs. We assembled a Data Management Services Working Group to examine what types of services were being offered at other M1 institutions. A research data management life cycle was then developed to serve as a standard framework. The services we currently offer were then integrated with those we knew our faculty wanted. We argue that the increasing role of scholarly impact in determining a school’s status will provide a new opportunity for libraries to assume a critical institutional role behind its traditional support of scholarship and teaching. In practice, this increased role can evolve in a multitude of ways. The combination of a variety of inputs (both tangible and intangible) enables the numerous outputs in varying degrees to realize the research productivity. To select appropriate metrics and translate into the practical situation through empirical design is a cumbersome task. A single indicator cannot work well in different situations, but selecting the 'most suitable' one from dozens of indicators is very confusing. Nevertheless, establishing benchmarks in research evaluation and implementing all-factor productivity is almost impossible. To provide more affordable course content to our students and faculty, local data on how students perceive textbook expenses and how the costs impact student success would be necessary in order to advocate to faculty and other stakeholders. This survey, conducted at a mid-sized research public institution, aims to explore student perceptions of textbooks and how these perceptions influence academic success. The results reveal that students feel that the cost of required textbooks is unreasonable and that students are more likely to purchase required textbooks for in-major classes than for elective or general education courses. The present study is undertaken to find out the publication trends on Alopecia Areata Disease during 2010-2019 from the global perspective. The study mainly focus on distribution of research output, top journals for publications, most prolific authors, authorship pattern, and citations pattern on Alopecia Areata Disease. The results indicate that highest growth rate of publications occurred during the year 2019. Columbia University topped the scene among all institutes. The origins of this White Paper can be traced to a discussion started in mid-2019 between a number of scholarly publishers and the Publisher Coordinator for Research4Life (a role that is supported financially by the STM Association). As information and communication technology has become pervasive in our society, we are increasingly dependent on both digital data and repositories that provide access to and enable the use of such resources. Repositories must earn the trust of the communities they intend to serve and demonstrate that they are reliable and capable of appropriately managing the data they hold.
