The breadth, scope, security, evaluation, and preservation of African American archival resources in the United States are all understudied. Moreover, the scope and contents of the majority of African American resources are likely unknown. The purpose of this study was to compile a record of collections holding primary resources on African Americans to conducting research on African American Archival Resources in three states, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.

As gender equality has become a more prominent issue and men and women have become more equal, one would expect this change to be reflected in children’s literature. This study examines four Newbery-Award winning books to determine if this change is apparent.

For every advance of information and communication technology in the 20thand 21st centuries, there has been gap between those who can readily adopt and benefit from it and those who cannot. As higher education becomes increasingly enmeshed in Internet-based learning, academic libraries will need to maintain and even increase digital literacy and fluency instruction in spite of presumed reduced need. Furthermore, academic libraries themselves will need to examine their own status in the divide.

Earlier this year, SPARC launched Connect OER—a platform to share and discover information about Open Educational Resources (OER) activities at campuses across North America. Through Connect OER, academic libraries create and manage profiles about their institution’s efforts on OER, producing valuable data that we use to populate a searchable directory and produce an annual report.

As the first Connect OER Annual Report, this document summarizes insights from the Connect OER pilot, which ran from May - July 2017. The data encompass 65 SPARC member libraries spanning 31 U.S. states and five Canadian provinces who participated in the pilot. Our analysis …

This case study explores issues of interoperability and shared collection management between two libraries – one community and one academic – located within the American Jewish University (AJU). AJU’s choice to use two separate classification systems, Library of Congress and Elazar, respectively, provides a necessary separation of academic and religious context, but limits record access between the two collections. Specifically, this study aims to answer the following core research question: is consolidation into one classification scheme both a realistic and helpful solution for increased interoperability? Libraries are at the nexus of an expanded definition of scholarship that changes how we teach information literacy to undergraduates who are not only information seekers, but also creators of new knowledge. Their academic works have been shared farther and are accessed more often than traditionally published forms of scholarship. This study investigates two questions key to academic library resources and services: Which sources are students most likely to use to begin their academic work? Whom do students tend to consult for research assistance? In-depth interviews conducted with 15 undergraduate and graduate students were thematically analyzed through a three-step process. The findings indicate that students are most likely to consult faculty and peers for assistance and are largely unaware of librarians' roles, while they tend to begin research using library databases and do not necessarily start with Google. More Than a Memory: Exploring Purdue University's History Through Objects extends a 2014 undergraduate effort, which resulted in the publication Little Else Than a Memory: Purdue Students Search for the Class of 1904. Purdue students in 2016-2017 academic year sought to understand the history of Purdue University and to recover the student experience more than 100 years prior, at the turn of the twentieth century. This research, conducted primarily within Purdue Archives and Special Collections, includes choosing, investigating, and analyzing the material objects those students left behind.

Librarians have a key role to play in educating users about predatory publishing. Predatory publishing can be described as low quality, amateurish, and often unethical academic publishing that is usually Open Access (OA). Understanding predatory publishing helps authors to make more informed decisions about where to publish.
