The purpose of this presentation is to share our techniques for creating easy to use tutorials for your library. Whether you serve a small academic community, or a large university, we hope to present ideas that work for your library. We will cover the basic pedagogy behind tutorial creation and use, and then present both licensed and open sourced tools for creating multimedia tutorials at all funding levels. Participants will be asked to participate in storyboarding exercise where they put together a learning object they can take back to their institution. Our goal is to demystify the tutorial creation process.

Credo Online Reference Service, popularly known as Credo Reference, is an e-reference database for K-12, public libraries, and academic libraries. The user-friendly interface provides an excellent place for students to begin their research, or to learn about the process of doing research during information literacy instruction. Instructors are provided with pre-proxied permalinks and embed codes that allow them to integrate any part of this resource into their learning management system.

At many institutions, students are required to use the Blackboard online course management system. Often, links are provided to library resources through Blackboard. An extension of this service was developed a few years ago that enabled the delivery of course-related content at the point-of-need by utilizing LibGuides. The desired outcome was that students would have an improved research experience, produce better student work, steer students away from simple, uniformed Google searching to quality databases, and improve usage of library resources. As more and more universities establish Institutional Repositories (IR), awareness is developing about the limitations of IRs in enhancing the academic research service. The concept of an IR needs to be expanded to include the integration of the processes that transform intellectual endeavor into a broadening array of academic and research support services which are fundamentally social.
