Clemson University and the U.S. National Park Service (NPS) have collaborated since 2010 to develop the Open Parks Network, an open repository of over 230,000 digital objects and metadata records chronicling the diverse cultural and natural history of our nation’s parks, historic sites, and other protected areas. Digital Science’s Dimensions has been officially launched in January 2018. At a first glance, this is an exciting development, bringing new competition to the existing field, which is dominated by Clarivate’s Web of Science and Elsevier’s Scopus. Since Dimensions is a freemium, features such as full text and citation analytics require a subscription. Prior to subscription, library typically conducts trials and thorough evaluation, measuring the value that Dimensions brings to the institution, comparing it to existing products, calculating the cost of switching, examining its features and contents, and even considering the future of the product and the company.This paper, however, …

In recent years a growing amount of interest has been dedicated to collections as data. A collections as data paradigm seeks to foster an expanded set of research, pedagogical, and artistic potential predicated on the computational use of cultural heritage collections. Collections as data raises the question of what it might mean to treat digitized and born digital collections as data rather than simple surrogates of physical objects or static representations of digital experience.

Journals which have been indexed in universal citation databases can introduce their countries’ scientific productions to the world’ scientific communications. In this study, it is aimed to evaluate Iranian Medical English Journals (IMEJ) based on Scopus’ journal selection criteria. This is a descriptive quantitative study which deals with the last issues of 52 numbers of IMEJ which have not been indexed in Web of Science, Scopus, and PubMed. Data is collected using a researcher-developed checklist whose validity was confirmed by faculty members. Microsoft Office Excel was used to analyze data. Working with large data sets can be a challenge for both librarians and external stakeholders. Vendors often provide scads of data about the products we use, but sifting through it takes time. Visualization tools exist to help distill meaning from particularly dense data. This talk provides a look at how data visualization approaches can differ based on a variety of organizational factors such as staffing capacity, costs, and specific project requirements. The sessions defined large-scale digitization vs. other types of digital projects, presented funding models for organizations of all sizes/staffing levels, shared lessons learned from the 2017 LSTA-funded Ramping Up digitization grant project, and discussed the challenges of large-scale and how workflows can be evolved. Use And Awareness Of Library Services Among Faculty At Two Armenian Universities, D. Aram Donabedian, John Carey, Arshak Balayan

Publications and Research

This study surveyed instructional faculty at two Armenian universities to determine use and awareness of academic library services or resources including reference, interlibrary loan, subscription databases, subject liaisons, and more. A minority of respondents reported making frequent use of the services investigated, with usage varying according to such factors as academic rank, length of employment, and full- or part-time status. Many participants also had suggestions for services not available at their libraries. These results help illuminate user preferences among faculty at these universities and could help librarians at similar institutions identify underutilized resources to promote or new services to offer.

San Jose State University Library, along with all California State University (CSU) libraries, recently migrated to ExLibris’ Alma and Primo, going live with our unified CSU library system in 2017. One of our most anticipated Alma features is the ability to export invoices from Alma into the campus PeopleSoft financial systems (ERPs). A team of systems and acquisitions staff from several campuses developed an integration plan that could be adapted for use by all our CSU libraries. Several libraries have now successfully implemented this process, improving their invoice workflow efficiency.

This presentation shares the steps we took for a successful migration of our electronic resources. While the focus is on a consortium that used several different electronic resources management systems, many of the topics covered are also relevant for standalone libraries. Remembering The Church In The Wildwood: The Archival Processing And Digitization Of The Martinsville Baptist Church Collection, Allison N. Grimes

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Martinsville Baptist Church was founded in 1912 in a rural farming community on State Highway 7 in eastern Nacogdoches County. The church was founded during a revival being held in the community of Martinsville and has been in continuous operation ever since. The church grew throughout its lifetime, reaching record attendance and membership numbers between 1950 and 1980. Since the early 2000s, church attendance and membership has been in decline. This thesis outlines the history of Martinsville Baptist Church and explains conservation measures taken during the archival processing and digitization of records in the Martinsville Baptist Church Collection.

This practice-oriented article outlines one institution’s process of implementing both electronic checkout and a new integrated library system (ILS) for an academic library of 187,000 physical items. The purpose of this Master’s Thesis Project is to implement essential practices in the museum profession in relation to the stabilization, digitization, and exhibition of the Howard D. Beach Photography Studio Collection. Through skills learned in the Museum Studies MA program, negatives from the Beach Collection were systematically chosen, digitized, and researched. This process resulted in an exhibition titled Picturing Buffalo: The Howard D. Beach Photography Studio Collection, which was on display from February 4-27, 2018 at the Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum, in Buffalo, New York.
