Digital Commons - Heartland User Group + IR Day

The goal of the SHARE initiative, a partnership between the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) and the Center for Open Science (COS), is to build a “free, open, data set about research and scholarly activities across their life cycle.” As of August 2017, 161 repositories and publishers have made metadata available to SHARE for harvesting, and the aggregated data set is available for searching. Many metadata providers are institutional repositories utilizing the bepress Digital Commons platform whose metadata is harvested through the OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting) protocol for repository interoperability. Objective: The references are an important component of citation analysis. In this study, it is aimed to determine the reference analysis of Iranian Medical English Journals (IMEJ) based on WOS, Scopus and PubMed journal selection criteria.

Methods: This study is a descriptive quantitative analysis which deals with the last issues of 52 numbers of IMEJ which haven't been indexed in WOS, Scopus, and PubMed. The data were collected observing the journals data provider websites and then entered into a checklist tool. MS Excel software was used for data analysis.

Results: About 88.5% of journals had their own reference style. In …

Institutional digital repositories provide open access to research outputs created within a university or research institution. Many institutions currently support open access by paying article processing charges (APC) for their affiliated faculty and researchers. The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Libraries started the Open Access (OA) Fund program in 2014 to help cover the APC of tenure-track UNO authors. The fundamental goals of the UNO OA Fund is to include and encourage the UNO community to publish their research in an OA journal and platform, DigitalCommons@UNO (http://digitalcommons.unomaha.edu/).

Automagical is defined by dictionary.com as an adjective describing something that is "happening in a way that is hidden from or not understood by the user, and in that sense, apparently "magical." "The automagical aspects of this process will be explored, but not so deeply as to make them non-magical.

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to investigate the awareness level of librarians about various ICT applications in University of the Punjab (PU) and to examine the constraints and issues they are facing in acquisition of modern ICT skills.

Methodology

A questionnaire was developed and administered to 80 professional librarians having graduate and postgraduate qualification. Data was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS 19.0).

Findings

Data analysis revealed that 99% of the participants are computer literate, having good knowledge of library automation and digitization. The knowledge of web based services such as e-mail, search engine, chatting, e-resources …

The author documents and discusses the independent books, magazines, and print projects produced by fashion designers since the 1980s when fashion and art aligned and fashion publishing transformed. Significant collaboration among fashion designers, graphic designers, photographers, and artists developed in the 1980s and continues in the twenty-first century. Self-published zines and lookbooks, small-press photobooks, and independent magazines point away from the fashion industry and towards the febrile and conceptual world of artists’ books and magazines. Fashion designers’ practices have expanded, and book making and publishing, rooted in art and graphic design, have become significant and symbolic multidisciplinary activities within specific …

In the 2010 survey Taking Our Pulse: The OCLC Research Survey of Special Collections and Archives, artists’ books were the specific genre most often identified as a new collecting area within library special collections departments.1 For librarians at institutions without an artists’ books collection, beginning and sustaining the growth of a new collection can be an exciting and challenging opportunity to become acquainted with an additional area of specialized knowledge. Objective: When the University of North Dakota’s Health Sciences Library moved to its new location in 2016 it transformed itself into an entirely digital library with a few exceptions. Due to shelving limitations, the library could retain only about one third of the volumes and historical medical artifacts in its special collections. Staff members were tasked with selecting the most appropriate items and moving them to their new location while complying with UND’s disposal policies for discarded and gifted materials.

The study determines the criteria considered in evaluating electronic resources, the adequacy of use of the electronic resources and the extent of use of the electronic resources by university libraries in South East Nigeria. In view of the importance of indigenous knowledge in development process, this paper investigated the efforts of selected federal university libraries in South West, Nigeria in indigenous knowledge collection development and preservation.
