Accessing Web Archives: Integrating An Archive-It Collection Into Ebsco Discovery Service, Christina A. Beis, Kayla Harris, Stephanie Shreffler

Effective collaboration between archives and technical services can increase the discoverability of special collection materials. Archivists at the University of Dayton Libraries began using Archive-It to capture websites relevant to their collecting policies in 2015. However, the collections were only made available to users from the University of Dayton page on the Archive-It website. Content was isolated in a separate platform and was not promoted to users. Working together, the team of archivists and technical services librarians incorporated the web archive collections into the Libraries’ EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) discovery layer. A History Harvest is a collaborative approach to community archiving, which leverages the skills of historians, librarians, or archivists and creates experiential learning opportunities for students to collect, digitize, and share cultural heritage objects and oral histories online. In many cases, archival skills are needed to curate and preserve the digital objects created and collected during History Harvest events. In this session, presenters discuss how we can contribute our skills, knowledge, and repository resources to support our local and regional communities and diversify the historical voice preserved in our collections.

A team of Bryant University Librarians are participating in the EXCITE Transformation for Libraries program through the Connecticut State Library. We conducted a series of structured group and one-on-one conversations with students, faculty, and staff in order to learn about how they think and feel about teamwork, the library, and collaboration at the library. We found that students in particular were far more responsive to community sessions than in taking surveys.

This research discusses Indonesia’s Ministry of Finance Library’s promotional effectiveness in making users intrigued to utilize the library. This study aims to discover the library’s promotional effectiveness level based on overall promotional mix concepts consisted of six sub-variables. Those six sub-variables include personal selling, advertising, sales promotion, public relation and publicity, learning materials, and corporate design sub-variables. It is quantitative research by using a survey method. The survey was conducted on 100 respondents with a convenience sampling technique. Research results showed that promotional efforts done by the library were considered effective with a score of 79.28%. The highest score lied …

Within the discipline of library science, there are two themes that speak to both the philosophy of librarianship and that intersect with biblical teaching. These are “documentality” and “information literacy.” Both themes within the librarianship context emerge from and speak to the metanarratives of contemporary culture, particularly as they pertain to higher education. Documentality embraces the social values and practices underpinning the reification and commodification of human communication, from the mind of the author to publication, to distribution, to access. Technical standards are a form of gray literature that describe consensus for a wide variety of applications. They promote safety, quality, and interchangeability of parts. In academic libraries, standards have largely been associated with engineering collections, despite having connections to many disciplines. Engineering and technology accreditation bodies and employers continue to expect graduates to have knowledge and experience with standards upon graduation. This article provides a brief history of standards collection development in academic libraries, discusses the challenges of standards collections, shares a case study of standards information literacy curricula integration, and offers considerations for the future of standards collections.

Studies show that the high cost of textbooks, for instance, can impact student course choices, academic performance, and retention.
