In an effort to eliminate redundancies in thesis and dissertation cataloging at the University of Arkansas, a working group was devised to create a semi-automated workflow. This new, multi-departmental workflow eliminates redundancies, allowing us to provide better access to the intellectual endeavors of the scholars on our campus. This paper describes the experience of the collaboration within multiple library departments and departments across campus; acknowledges the importance of library and campus collaboration with examples of success and advice from the literature; and emphasizes clear and consistent communication, meeting user needs, and streamlined and innovative workflows.

Over the course of two years, a team of librarians and programmers from LSU Libraries migrated the 186 collections of the Louisiana Digital Library from OCLC's CONTENTdm platform over to the open-source Islandora platform.

Early in the process, the team understood the value of creating a reproducible metadata transformation pipeline, because there were so many unknowns at the beginning of the process along with the certainty that mistakes would be made. This presentation will describe how the team used innovative and collaborative tools, such as Trello, Ansible, Vagrant, VirtualBox, git and GitHub to accomplish the task.

UNR Libraries’ Digital Initiatives Unit and Digital Media Technology Department partnered with an art historian, local art organizations, and Reno street artists to create an online archive, exhibit, and virtual reality experience highlighting the explosion of urban street art in Reno. The Libraries assembled a team that photographed the art using traditional 2D digital cameras, and captured 360 VR footage of the art and of several artists creating interior and exterior murals. The team conducted on-camera interviews of prominent street artists in Reno; collected permission forms; generated metadata; preserved the images and created an archive using CatDV, the Libraries’ media …

Employing More Product, Less Process (MPLP) approaches we are making archival collections more readily available to our researchers. As we digitize our collections we extend the accessibility of these collections through 24/7 virtual access, enhancing collection, series, and folder level descriptions from finding aids with the item level metadata that accompanies the digital surrogates. But are we creating our metadata as efficiently as possible, and with enough of the original context that exists in our finding aids? Or is there some room for improvement? Book banning or challenging is a complex issue, in which a person takes issue with a book in the library‟s collection, complains to the librarian, and sometimes demands that the book be removed from the collection entirely. Books for young adult audiences are especially at risk, and the reasons why these books are challenged or banned are numerous. By reading fifteen different young adult books from between the years of 1990 and 2016, the researchers performed a content analysis to look at the reasons why books may be challenged or banned. In the 1960s, a Louisville photography studio began donating its negatives, prints, and invoices to the University of Louisville Photographic Archives. The Caufield & Shook Collection remains a significant primary source for local history and a prime candidate for digitization. Unfortunately, on its receipt non-archivists processed the collection with little documentation of original order or organizational decision making. Additionally, workflow choices were determined largely by the desire to maximize student labor. Libraries at Seventh-day Adventist affiliated colleges and universities collect their denominational materials exhaustively. Many use the Library of Congress Classification Scheme (LCC). The challenge is that these exhaustive collections must fit in a classification scheme based on a general collection that does not typically hold much on this topic. LCC uses BX6151- 6155 for Seventh-day Adventists. Following the LCC notation without modification or expansion results in the proliferation of decimals, impeding both library users and staff. The Records and Archives Division of the Office of the Missouri Secretary of State (hereafter MSA) received two National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) grants for the purpose of establishing an electronic records program at the Missouri State Archives. The first grant covered planning, staff training and a consultant who determined that minor modifications to the current State of Missouri Agency Records Tracking (SMART) System would allow for the ingest of permanent electronic records. The second grant funded the SMART upgrade and the purchase of data-grabbing equipment. The upgrade succeeded and MSA was able to ingest 150 GB of …

The quality of teaching, research and community service of lecturers coupled with their publication in any university system depend on the quality of the electronic database they use. This study therefore, investigated the knowledge of electronic databases as predictors of research productivity of academic staff in private universities in South-west, Nigeria.

The descriptive survey research design of the correlational type was adopted. A total of 1656 academic staff in in the 21 private universities were sampled. Nora Evelyn Cordingley worked for the Roosevelt Memorial Association at the Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace. She helped Hermann Hagedorn build the extensive collection of materials related to President Theodore Roosevelt starting in the early 1920s until the collection moved to Harvard University in the early 1940s. She also helped in the project to publish Theodore Roosevelt's letters. Ms. Cordingley died in her office within the Widener Library in 1951.

Information about the need, along with tools and methodologies, for starting a small-scale data management program for internal collection analysis and assessment purposes was discussed.

This poster describes the project's goals, the steps we took to prepare our records for conversion into linked data by Zepheira, and our observations on usability of the discovery layer and the effects on search engine optimization.

This chapter outlines the process of creating a permanent online presence from a curated gallery exhibition. Creating an open access version of the exhibition on an institution’s repository preserves the experience for the future and extends its engagement to a growing online community of students, interested community members, and others beyond campus. This article is an examination of the history of gender demographics in the field of librarianship. The historic development and subsequent "feminization" of librarianship continues to influence the gender wage gap and the disproportionate leadership bias in the field today. This article examines the stereotyping of librarians and the cyclical effect of genderizing the profession. Consideration of current trends and data in librarian demographics demonstrates a consistent decrease in gender diversity, accompanied by a troubling lack of women leaders and executives.
