This autoethnographic study explores the disorienting dilemma that a technical services librarian experienced while alternating between working behind the scenes to fulfill professional responsibilities and teaching in the library to meet organizational expectations as a faculty member. The analysis of personal data accumulated during the tenure track period reveals three themes: teaching as learning to become, teaching as learning to challenge the system, and teaching as learning to research. Reflection focuses on three themes interconnected by the concept and practice of mindful learning. Grounded in a case study in Barbuda in the Caribbean, this research examines sustainability from the perspective of what arts and heritage can contribute to community engagement and local and broader understandings about the environment. This article documents a growing body of literature recognizing the role of arts and culture, including local knowledge and traditional ecological knowledge (TEK), in climate change endeavors. Art and TEK present expansive world views. Contextual information situates research done on the island of Barbuda pre- and post-Hurricane Irma. Taking both structural and thematic inspiration from Walter Benjamin’s “The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction,” this article posits that the movement from physical card catalogs to ALSs [Automated library systems] and ILSs [Integrated library systems] was not solely the result of technological progress. Rather, this transition had its genesis in a process Marx called primitive accumulation—in this case a form specific to the library profession. In other words, this article seeks to recast the history of digitized catalogs within libraries, seeing them, first and foremost, as harbingers of disenfranchisement and dispossession, specifically of catalogers. IKOS has continued to monitor the nursing information behavior (NIB) of home care nurses. In earlier reports we described how we developed an online taxonomy of NIB. We then took on a qualitative analysis of video representations of home care nursing in the pandemic. Merging the codes from two rounds of open coding yielded a set of categories (or axes) that could be used to construct a narrative analysis. Contextual quotations from the video transcripts further reveal the intensity of the potential taxonomic extension. This handbook is a reference tool intended to help authors, scholars, and anyone else provide accurate and standardized quotations from the Quran, both from linguistic and historical perspectives. The first volume of the handbook includes the full text of the Quran using a font mimicking its earliest script, Mashq or Early Kufic, and it is provided in two formats, with and without diacritic vowel marks. As COVID-19 emerged on the world stage a challenge arose to help inform the knowledge base in home health-care nursing. Connecting current experience with the Pajarillo theory "The Nub of Nursing Information Behavior (NIB" was a first step. To provide a taxonomy of NIB, standard domain analytical tools for ontology extraction were employed using Pajarillo's text. Analysis generated frequency distributions of terms and phrases which were then sorted and disambiguated to generate a list of phenomena. Co-word analysis generated visualizations to suggest regions that might constitute facets and sub-facets. Facet analysis yielded six major facets and 17 sub-facets. The NANDA …

A union catalog is a resource where libraries and other cultural institutions that collect materials can share cataloging and holdings information from their individual collections. Since Wikidata’s launch in 2012 as an open, collaboratively edited knowledge base, it’s held great promise for the library and scholarly communication community more broadly. Institutions and individual information professionals turned Wikidatans are using Wikidata to build a community-owned infrastructure for the bibliographic ecosystem, including open source tools that generate profiles of scholars, organizations, and publications. Book banning or challenging is a complex issue, in which a person takes issue with a book in the library‟s collection, complains to the librarian, and sometimes demands that the book be removed from the collection entirely. Books for young adult audiences are especially at risk, and the reasons why these books are challenged or banned are numerous. By reading fifteen different young adult books from between the years of 1990 and 2016, the researchers performed a content analysis to look at the reasons why books may be challenged or banned. Nora Evelyn Cordingley worked for the Roosevelt Memorial Association at the Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace. She helped Hermann Hagedorn build the extensive collection of materials related to President Theodore Roosevelt starting in the early 1920s until the collection moved to Harvard University in the early 1940s. She also helped in the project to publish Theodore Roosevelt's letters. Ms. Cordingley died in her office within the Widener Library in 1951.

Conceptualizations Of Catalogers’ Judgment Through Content Analysis: A Preliminary Investigation, Junli Diao

Catalogers’ judgment is frequently mentioned, but rarely researched in formal studies. The purpose of this article is to investigate catalogers’ judgment through an exploration of the texts collected in the database of Library and Information Science Source. Verbs, adjectives and nouns intimately associated with catalogers’ judgment were extracted, analyzed and grouped into 16 categories, which give birth to five conceptual descriptions. The results of this study provide cataloging professionals with an overview picture on aspects of catalogers’ judgment. They may help library school students and graduates and novice catalogers to become independent and confident decision makers relating to cataloging work.

The exchange brought together the City University of New York (CUNY) and two universities in Shanghai, China: Shanghai University (SU) and Shanghai Normal University (SNU). The program was inspired, in part, by recognition of the diversity of CUNY’s student body and growing awareness of the increasing globalization of information and education. This article addresses challenges inherent in collaborative archival projects involving both large institutions and small historical societies. It identifies these unique problems and outlines potential solutions to overcome these issues. Examples are drawn from the Portal to American Jewish History project and contextualized within the professional literature on ethnic or community archives and archival collaboration. This project collected metadata from a wide range of Jewish history archives and aggregated the records in a single searchable website.

Based on experimental results and existing resources, the paper explored and identified the major contributing factors to the email notice issue, including local administrator status, Aleph client, mail server, Aleph system files, and security settings. The paper elaborated the troubleshooting process, and how to find the solution to the issue. The authors suggested recommendations based the lessons learned from the project experience. The project experience presented in this paper should be instructive for libraries solving the similar problems.
