This research examines the mission statements and submission guidelines of local author collections in public libraries to determine in what ways these collections emphasize the communities they represent, the extent to which all members of the community are represented by the collection, and how these collections are accessed by the community.

The Natchez Association for the Preservation of African American History and Culture (NAPAC) is a repository of local history that spotlights the life of black citizens from the turn of the century to the modern-day. What makes the NAPAC Museum unique is that it collects history that is only native to Natchez, Mississippi. The rich heritage of the African American culture is interpreted through artifacts and other relics that allow one to focus on what was then and what is now. The purpose of this study is to document the collections, organization, events, and degree of digitization of the museum.

Exploring Data Mining Research In West Africa: A Bibliometric Analysis, Oladosu O. Oladimeji, Olayanju O. Oladimeji

This research paper's main objective is to quantify and analyze the research output of data mining in West Africa, including (1) growth in publications as measured by the Relative Growth Rate (RGR) and Doubling Time (Dt), (2) productivity and quantification of research output for different institutions of the region (West Africa).

A De Grummond Primer: Highlights Of The Children’S Literature Collection, Ellen Hunter Ruffin

The first book-length project on the Collection, edited by Carolyn J. Brown, Ellen Hunter Ruffin, and Eric L. Tribunella, includes unique aspects of the holdings in scholarly essays written by children’s literature “notables.” Along with over ninety full-color images, the book examines the Collection’s strengths: Fairy tales, 19^th Century periodicals, African American children’s literature, the Golden Age of illustrated books, early books for children, and many more.

This study has been aligned to examine the effect of the role of the academic library on students’ learning at the university level. The administration of academic libraries has been found to facilitate university students in the global south and global north. For this study, a cross-sectional survey has been conducted at the Hafiz Hayat Campus, University of Gujrat, Pakistan. A sample of 131 BS program students has been sampled from the Department of Sociology and Psychology. A total of 120 students have participated in the survey. Institutions wishing to disseminate their scholarship on a wide scale have influenced the need for institutional repositories (IR). These repositories provide institutions the opportunity to display and preserve what they have to offer in an open access environment. The University of Louisiana at Lafayette (UL Lafayette) had attempted to adopt an IR for years and finally achieved this goal. Many issues impacted the adoption, including funding, deciding on the appropriate platform solutions, and marketing the need for contributions from faculty and university administration. This article explores the move of the Central Washington University Archives and Special Collections (CWUASC) to a new location from the fourth floor to the second floor of the James E. Brooks Library in 2018. The history of the CWUASC, reasons for the move, the planning and designing of the new space, the actual move of the collection by the archives staff, lessons learned, and the impact of the move in reaching a larger audience of faculty, staff, students, and the general public are described. A review of literature on other moves of archives and special collections is also provided.

Access to online archival materials has become vital for many academic historians and other researchers. The COVID-19 global pandemic has aimed the spotlight on the digital archival collections hosted by archives institutions and available through the web. In light of this increased role of digital archival collections, it is imperative for archivists to gain a better understanding of academic historians’ perceptions of these materials. Hiring Student Workers As Subject Experts In Archives: A Case Study, Laura Romans

This article aims to share a successful experience of addressing a known knowledge gap within a special collections department by hiring and retaining a student worker with the needed content expertise. Outlined are the details of the lifecycle of the initial project for which the student was hired and reflections on the pros and cons of this mutually beneficial arrangement. By describing this experience in full, this case study can serve as a replicable model for managers within archives and special collections settings to intentionally hire student workers with advanced content knowledge.

The John Earl Cutler, MD papers contains 5 ledgers and some loose business-related papers, including two ledger books in which Dr. Cutler recorded patient fees and fees he paid to suppliers. The ledgers cover the years 1918 to 1922. Dr. Cutler recorded the names of his patients and the companies that paid for his services. He also recorded the drugs dispensed and the cost. He rarely mentions symptoms, which he treats. There are some loose receipts for repairs to Dr. Cutler's Franklin automobile and purchases from drug wholesalers. See more at MS 116.

Diaries, letters, photographs, audio recordings, reports, and other paper and film-based materials tell the stories of people’s lives. Using examples from the vast parapsychology archives and rare book collections at the University of West Georgia, this paper will share people’s first-hand accounts of extraordinary incidents or of their supernatural abilities, from the profound to the disappointing, and from the unexpected to the purposefully sought, including near-death experiences, extrasensory perception, and psychedelic drug use.

Women print shop owners have existed for much longer than most people realize; the first examples in Mexico date to the seventeenth century. Unfortunately, these texts are not always clearly described in a way that is findable beyond searching “viuda de.” Though many title-pages describe their businesses in terms of being a widow of their husband, these business owners deserve credit for their entrepreneurial efforts and should be findable in their own right.
