This research was conducted using a qualitative research with a case study method in one of the special libraries in South Jakarta, namely the Chandra Widodo library. The result of this study is that in fact various kinds of inter-library activities such as discussion, book review, and seminars in the library are examples of knowledge sharing activities. This study aims to identify and analyze the availability collections of Library Center of IAIN Surakarta, and the factors that influence the availability of materials teaching for Islamic Counseling and Guidance Study Programme. This research is a qualitative and quantitative methode. Data analysis was carried out using the checklist and interview. Based on the research, 49,5% availability collections for institute level courses, and 44.7% for departement level. Based on the findings research, Library Center of IAIN Surakarta collections has not fulfilled the need for compulsory teaching materials. The purpose of this journal is to find out the library learning activities at Madania Primary School and the obstacles they face. This research was conducted with qualitative methods. Data collection is done by interviewing, observing and documents studying. The conclusion of this study is that Madania Primary School library does not provide classroom supporting education in general. There are two types of librarians; librarians who had formal library education background and librarians who had library training background. Their difference competencies, resulting from different background, makes it interesting to explore. This research aims to compare librarians’ competencies who had difference background. It’s common misconception digital librarians are involved only in

This introductory level presentation discusses the basics of digitizing
collections from start to finish. The author reveals some secrets as well as
tips and tricks for achieving efficiency and sustainability of digital
projects. All libraries have unique collections that deserve to gain more
publicity. This crash course targets librarians passionate to learn how to
create efficient workflows and explains in details all steps involved in
digitization - from selection, through preparation, digitization, object
description (metadata) to publishing online.

Archives Exhibits

To honor Dr. Leon Lederman (15 July 1922-3 October 2018), a Nobel Laureate and former Director of Fermi Lab, and most importantly one of the founders of IMSA. After retiring as director of Fermi Lab, Dr. Lederman served as our resident scientist. In that capacity, he organized the Great Minds Program through which he invited scientists and other scholars to campus. Typically, the visitor would interact with students in the afternoon and then hold a more formal lecture in the evening, often open to the Aurora community.

Notice especially some of his wonderful doodles and cartoons included in this exhibit.

Lessons From The Treblinka Archive: Transnational Collections And Their Implications For Historical Research, Chad S.A. Gibbs

Journal of Contemporary Archival Studies

In work for his 1979 book The Death Camp Treblinka, Alexander Donat began the process of locating survivors of the camp and recording their histories. In a telling testament to the lethality of this place, he could identify only sixty-eight survivors. Analysis of Donat’s early findings—emerging six years prior to the publication of any major academic monograph on the subject—offers a window into the difficulties of conducting research on this Nazi extermination camp and its widely-scattered witnesses.

It highlights some of the chapters that will be most relevant to archivists, provides overviews and highlights of each of the book's three sections, discusses some of the main themes that come up throughout the book, and mentions a few strengths and drawbacks to the book’s approach. Excuses For Silence: A Review Of The Silence Of The Archive, Anna Robinson-Sweet

Journal of Contemporary Archival Studies

The Silence of the Archive by David Thomas, Simon Fowler, and Valerie Johnson promises to investigate the causes of archival silence, and to find solutions for dealing with these silences. The topic is timely and important at a time when distrust of power is high, and there exists a concomitant expectation of finding truth in the archives. The book is reticent in its investigation, however, shying away from calling out the way power is exercised to create silences. The exception is Valerie Johnson’s argument on the necessity of silence, which challenges the tendency toward stasis in the archive.

Dr. Leon Lederman was born 15 July, 1922 and passed away on 3 October, 2018. Dr. Lederman’s ideas expressed in the Urne Report (digitalcommons.imsa.edu/imsa_history/1/) led to the founding of IMSA in 1985 with the Charter Class arriving on campus in September of 1986.

In the United States, university archives are part of the university organizational structure. The archives can be formed strictly of permanent university records or can also include the personal papers of individuals related to the university, most often faculty, but also administrators and students/alumni. In addition, by law, the records produced by American public universities--including many of the personal papers acquired by public university archives--are also public records, which must be appraised using their specific state-mandated records retention schedule.

The English author and lay theologian Charles Williams was an idiosyncratic, intriguing, perhaps intimidating subject. He was born in St. Albans near London in September 1886 and died in Oxford in May 1945. Soldiers of the First World War viewed their experience not only through the lens that surrounds a colored iris but also through the lens of a camera. World War I marked the first time that the camera traveled with amateurs to war. Unencumbered by the assortment of nineteenth-century equipment necessary to develop a single photograph, soldiers of the new century used the camera to capture their personal view of war (Carmichael, 1989). Their pictures tell a story of comradeship, the daily drudgeries of duty, and sacrifice. Words convey thoughts and emotions. A photograph captures them for display.

Inhabitants of Great Britain have been brewing and drinking ale since the Bronze Ages. The province of Britannia and its capital Londinium were ruled by the Romans almost 2,000 years ago. Romans were great builders of roads that connected tabernae, which served food, wine, and local ale. These tabernae displayed vine leaves outside to advertise their trade.

Remembering a British Studies class visit to the first Carnegie Library in Dunfermline, Scotland, one of over 2,800 Carnegie libraries worldwide at the turn of the last century. In their day, Carnegie libraries were more than just charming buildings; they fueled a growing enthusiasm among the masses for the existence of free, tax-supported public libraries intended to enrich their parent communities—especially those for which no comparable institution had existed before.
