David R. Carr, professor of History at USF St. Petersburg, served as a member of St. Petersburg’s comprehensive plan review committee during the early and mid-1980s. He donated his working papers and files to special collections at the Poynter Library. During the early 1980s, the eighteen elements addressed by the city’s comprehensive plan included: Land Use, Traffic Circulation, Recreation and Open Space, Conservation, Water, Sewer, Drainage, Solid Waste, Utility, Collector Street, Port and Aviation, Mass Transit, Bikeway, Housing, Coastal Zone, Intergovernmental Cooperation, Economic, and Energy. Student-Faculty Collaborative Research Publications

Academic archivists have an opportunity to document the lives of key members of the institution. An oral history interview is one way of effectively presenting and preserving institutional history from multiple perspectives. This article discusses a recent oral history program at Rollins College conducted by the College Archives as part of a student-faculty research project. These oral history interviews add human voices to the existing archival records and enhance the understanding of liberal arts education from a faculty's perspective. Since the mid-1990s, libraries have been digitizing cultural-heritage resource materials for access purposes. The digital medium provides additional opportunities for innovative approaches to scholarship and the creation of new collections through the aggregation of geographically distributed materials of similar provenance or theme. According to Donald Waters, formerly head of the Digital Library Federation, “the promise of digital technology is for libraries to extend the reach of research and education, improve the quality of learning, and reshape scholarly communication.” Accordingly, the cultural-heritage community has widely embraced digitization.

The term "circuit rider" hearkens back to the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries when judges rode from county seat to county seat and preachers took to the pulpit of a different church each Sunday. In 2005, a new kind of circuit rider appeared on the scene—the circuit rider archivist.

Double Duty: Processing And Exhibiting The Children's Home Society Of Florida Collection As An Archivist And Public Historian, April Anderson-Zorn

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The Children's Home Society of Florida, often referred to as "Florida's Greatest Charity", is the state's oldest non profit welfare agency. Founded in 1902, the society was instrumental in creating and reforming child welfare laws as well as helping countless children in the state of Florida find loving homes. This paper focuses on the archival processing of the Children's Home Society of Florida Collection papers and the creation of a subsequent web exhibit. The role of archivist and public historian is examined to see how each profession works toward a common goal.
