“Looking from Yesterday” is the title of Dr. Milo A. Rediger’s 1970 address about the importance of Christian higher education during times of uncertainty and volatility. In this address, Rediger references the “Taylor concept,” which included symbols of oil (light) and the cross as a hopeful sign to the world. Despite its delivery more than 50 years ago, the theme of Rediger’s address still rings true today as we continue to seek to fulfill the mission of Taylor University during our own challenging times. The main objective of this research is to inspect the classroom environment, student learning, interactive learning, class participation, higher education institutions using bibliometric analysis from 2001 to 2020. For the scientometric analysis, we extracted data from the Science Citation Index database, Web of Science (Core Collection) using a searched query. The data was extracted on February 27, 2021 (GMT-4:29 AM). Further, the period was 2001 to 2020. There were 6340 published documents were found. The study findings illustrate that the topic of higher education institutions was on top of the topic list and a major proportion of published documents was …

This paper is designed to evaluate sociology of knowledge, sociology of education, educational sociology, sociology, and education using bibliometric analysis from 2001 to 2020. The main purpose is to consolidate the published scholarship on the sociology of education in the Web of Science indexed documents. There was a lack of measurable quantities on the subject. We used the bibliometric analysis and a total of 1698 published documents were found. The study findings showed that the topic of 'sociology of knowledge' was on top with a total number of 1698 publications, 1392 articles as a type of published documents, 1236 publications …

Despite the high value of electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs), the global collection has seen limited use. To extend such use, a new approach to building digital libraries (DLs) is needed. Fortunately, recent decades have seen that a vast amount of “gray literature” has become available through a diverse set of institutional repositories as well as regional and national libraries and archives. Most of the works in those collections include ETDs and are often freely available in keeping with the open-access movement, but such access is limited by the services of supporting information systems. The California State University Archives and Archivists’ Roundtable is a Community of Practice consisting of archivists that meet regularly online, and annually in person. Communities grow from shared interests, resources, concerns, or endeavors. Communities of practice can grow out of a need for connecting with other people who share the same issues, learning environment, or passions. In this article we describe how the CSUAAR group was founded, how it has evolved, and offers a potential model for other archivists to identify, create, and maintain a community of practice through common needs or interest.

The administration of academic libraries has been found to facilitate university students in the global south and global north. For this study, a cross-sectional survey has been conducted at the Hafiz Hayat Campus, University of Gujrat, Pakistan. Institutions wishing to disseminate their scholarship on a wide scale have influenced the need for institutional repositories (IR). These repositories provide institutions the opportunity to display and preserve what they have to offer in an open access environment. The University of Louisiana at Lafayette (UL Lafayette) had attempted to adopt an IR for years and finally achieved this goal. Many issues impacted the adoption, including funding, deciding on the appropriate platform solutions, and marketing the need for contributions from faculty and university administration. This case study examines the process of creating an interactive and engaging lesson plan for the History of Science course, HSC 201: The Scientific Revolution. History of Science students tend to be undergraduates majoring in science or medical related fields, rather than the humanities, who need to fulfill an intensive writing or general education requirement. For most, if not all of them, this session would be the first time they experienced hands-on interaction with historical resources. Accordingly, the archivist sought to create a less traditional lesson plan that would foster a sense of fun and interest in the materials.

This chapter presents Purdue Archives and Special Collections as a case study in growing an organizational culture committed to teaching information literacy parallel to classroom learning through student worker experiential learning. While student employment or internships may not traditionally be considered co-curricular activities, Purdue University Archives and Special Collections provides an environment not only for students to gain pre-professional experience but also expertise, confidence, and competence in information; for many students, this preparation has resulted in careers in museums, archives, libraries, and cultural heritage institutions. During the 2019-2020 academic year, Northern Michigan University (NMU) participated in the ITHAKA S + R Teaching Undergraduates with Primary Sources research study. Catherine Oliver, Metadata and Cataloging Services Librarian, and Marcus C. Robyns, University Archivist, conducted seventeen interviews with NMU faculty from a variety of disciplines on their research and instructional use of primary sources. Oliver and Robyns collected and analyzed qualitative data with the intent on producing a local report. The report concludes with four important recommendations for supporting faculty in teaching with primary sources. The 2014-2017 ETDplus project brought together a diverse range of national stakeholders in the ETD curation process (professors, libraries, and service providers) to improve ETD policies and practices around research data and complex digital object management. Finding Aids: Guides to the Collections

This is a collection of personal and professional papers related to the Hopkins v. Price Waterhouse (Wash., D.C. Federal District Court) and Price Waterhouse v. Hopkins (U. S. Supreme Court) cases. The final decision capped a seven-year battle against Hopkins’ employer for gender discrimination and her final victory in 1990 helped to expand workplace discrimination laws to include gender stereotyping.

The collection date ranges from 1967-2001 and includes correspondence, court documents, materials related to the book So Ordered: Making Partner the Hard Way (University of Massachusetts Press, c1996), newspaper and periodical publications, photographs, and a scrapbook.

Reclaiming Indigenous Research in Higher Education challenges basic assumptions of Western methodologies by demonstrating the value of Indigenous approaches to social scientific research. Contributors argue that Western institutions have long marginalized Indigenous perspectives in higher education, overlooking or outright dismissing the unique experiences of Indigenous students as well as the efforts of Indigenous researchers to explore and understand them. This volume is a necessary read for anyone wanting to promote greater diversity and inclusion in the academy and in supporting institutions like archives.

Throughout Writing Program Administration scholarship there has been a clear call for archivization and archival work. This dissertation project takes an interdisciplinary approach to digital archival practices for Writing Program Administrators to consider and employ in their home institutions. While I recognize that WPAs are not typically identified as “archivists,” I situate the digital archive within the digital humanities as an interdisciplinary, collaborative project and offer suggestions that lead to recommendations for making an institutional archive. Last summer I researched the experiences of women at Gettysburg College during the pivotal decade 1965-1975 with the support of a college grant, the Koble Fellowship, a ten-week humanities based faculty-mentored research project. I tracked women's experiences at the college during this period and designed a digital scholarship project to share their stories. As a history major and as a feminist, a project about the history of women and their activism on campus nicely complemented by interests. (excerpt)

Musselman Library's Special Collections and College Archives at Gettysburg College involves student workers and interns in our preservation and conservation efforts. The recent addition to the staff of a half-time conservator position has opened up new avenues for training. This has also resulted in additional access points for our students, faculty and other researchers to interact with our collections. This presentation discusses our preservation activities and our new digital collection The Beauty of the Book.
