Southern Methodist University’s libraries and central IT staff have been working hand in hand for more than 30 years to provide high quality information technology tools in support of the University’s academic mission. The technology might change, the players might change, but the commitment of these two units goes above and beyond to serve University goals. Not intended to document every technological change on campus, this article focuses on the various stages in this fruitful relationship, and explores the organizational, cultural and environmental factors that have sustained this strategic alliance and fostered its growth over the years.

For information literacy instructors, a common teaching challenge is how to start a class effectively. Without previous exposure to learners, library instructors have little understanding of students' prior knowledge or research needs. At the same time, the reason for a librarian's involvement in a course at all is usually a mystery for students.

The benefits of introductory learning activities, such as warm-ups, are pedagogically sound, but library instructors may be reluctant to incorporate these strategies into information literacy instruction due to limitations of time. The objective of this presentation is to provide librarians with a potential outline for beginning an information literacy assessment strategy, starting with pre-assessment. Librarians unsure about where to start when it comes to assessment will find that developing a pre-test can be a great way to start such a strategy collaborating with classroom faculty. With the move from print to electronic, the variety of options available to purchase library materials has increased. The academic catalog is a vital record for colleges and universities. Until the late 1980s, Oregon State University catalogs were published, distributed and archived solely in print format. With the advent of web and digital technologies, the Oregon State University Registrar’s Office also began placing an electronic version of the most recent catalogs online, while the Oregon State University Libraries provided access to earlier versions of the catalog through a subscription to College Source®, an online vendor for academic catalogs.

As smartphone ownership rises, usage patterns are expanding. Libraries face an increasing demand for online content delivered in a mobile compatible format while being constrained by financial and staffing limitations. Solutions are readily available through free and low-cost products to create mobile web pages and existing design models from which to draw inspiration. Platform-specific apps can easily support the kinds of content most commonly delivered on library mobile pages: basic contact information and outbound links to the catalog, databases, and other resources. Chatbots In The Library: Is It Time?, Deeann Allison

This paper describes a pilot at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for a chatbot that answers questions about the library and library resources. The chatbot was developed using a SQL database to store the question and answers using Artificial Intelligence Mark-up Language metadata. The user interface was built using PHP, adapted from Program-O. The open source PHP program was modified to support better display and the launching of URLs within the chatbot screen. Database content was created by “mining” library websites for information, and analyzing chat logs.

Digital content blurs the lines of traditional library acquisition workflows and organization. For example: link resolvers and the loading of order confirmation record files may be handled by systems staff in one organization and by technical services staff in another. Lines are being crossed between acquisitions and interlibrary loan functions, notably with electronic versions of theses and dissertations. Regardless of this blurring of lines, library staff use vendors still in acquiring content for the library collection. National Louis University (NLU) provides access to local collections through an Institutional Repository and Special Collections and Archives digital collections. We use open access as an effective and value-added method for contributing to scholarship and outreach to different communities, including alumni. As NLU celebrates our 125th anniversary this year, we utilize digital collections to promote and provide access to our unique history. This presentation will discuss materials selected for inclusion and the multiple ways open access collections can contribute to a university's scholarship and reputation.

In the wake of the public library movement in the southern United States during the early twentieth century, local librarians began providing library services for those whom they deemed to be their most valuable resources, children. Representatives of a new profession, children’s librarians campaigned for better tomorrows by collecting good books specifically for young readers while providing safe, comfortable spaces that encouraged an atmosphere of instructive entertainment.

Meeting your customers where they are has taken on a whole new meaning in the 2010s. Join Amy Vecchione, of Boise State University, and Tobie Garrick, of Boise Public Library, as they explore ways to provide improved reference outcomes for customers through mobile technology. Each librarian has implemented new reference tools for customers including: connecting users to reference tools with QR (Quick Response) codes, roving reference with mobile devices, SMS reference, and mobile database instruction during the reference process. Participants will learn about barriers, how each librarian overcame them, and how mobile reference can be improved.

การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อศึกษาความคิดเห็นของผู้ดูแลเว็บไซต์หน่วยงานภาครัฐที่มีต่อความสามารถในการเข้าถึงได้ทางเว็บในเรื่องความหมาย ความสำคัญ หลักการ และการนำหลักการไปปฏิบัติรวมถึงปัญหาที่ผู้ดูแลเว็บไซต์หน่วยงาน ภาครัฐประสบเกี่ยวกับเรื่องความสารารถในการเข้าถึงได้ทางเว็บ ประชากรที่ใช้ในการวิจัย คือ ผู้ดูแลเว็บไซต์หน่วยงานภาครัฐระดับกระทรวง การดำเนินการวิจัยใช้แบบสัมภาษณ์รวบรวมข้อมูลจากผู้ดูแลเว็บไซต์หน่วยงานภาครัฐ จำนวน 20 แห่ง แห่งละ 1 คน รวม 20 คน ผลการวิจัยพบว่า ความหมายของความสามารถในการเข้าถึงได้ทางเว็บที่ผู้ดูแลเว็บไซต์หน่วยงานภาครัฐเห็นด้วยในระดับมาก และมีค่าเฉลี่ยสูงสุด คือ การจัดทำเว็บไซต์เพื่อให้ทุกคนเข้าถึงได้อย่างเท่าเทียม ผู้ดูแลเว็บไซต์หน่วยงานภาครัฐ เห็นด้วยว่าความสามารถในการเข้าถึงได้ทางเว็บมีความสำคัญในระดับมากทุกด้าน โดยด้านที่มีค่าเฉลี่ยสูงสุด คือด้านเศรษฐกิจ ผู้ดูแลเว็บไซต์หน่วยงานภาครัฐเห็นว่า หลักการความสามารถในการเข้าถึงได้ทางเว็บมีความสำคัญในระดับมากทุกหลักการ ผู้ดูแลเว็บไซต์หน่วยงานภาครัฐเห็นว่าการนำหลักการความสามารถในการเข้าถึงได้ทางเว็บไปปฏิบัติด้วยวิธีการ ออกแบบเว็บไซต์และการตรวจสอบเว็บไซต์ล้วนมีความสำคัญ และปัญหาที่ผู้ดูแลเว็บไซต์หน่วยงานภาครัฐประสบในระดับมาก คือ ปัญหาด้านการจัดการ The purposes of this research were to study government agency webmasters’ views of web accessibility, in terms of, meaning, significance, principles, and application of the principles; and to study the problems government agency webmasters encounter in regard to web accessibility. Addressing Information Needs In Sport Management, An Interdisciplinary Field, Kendra Spahr, Stephanie Wiegand

Sport management as a scholarly discipline is relatively new, and very few students who earn doctorates in this field go into academia, instead choosing to go into practice where salaries are much higher. Due to these circumstances, literature research in sport management is difficult for students as well as librarians, as very little primary research exists in published journals and books. This poster reviews challenges for librarians, the best information resources to support academic sport management programs, common student questions, and tangential research areas that support research in this discipline.
