Artificial Intelligence In The Library: Assessing Chatbots And Chatgpt Presentation, Michelle Ehrenpreis, John P. Delooper
Artificial Intelligence In The Library: Assessing Chatbots And Chatgpt Presentation, Michelle Ehrenpreis, John P. Delooper
Publications and Research
In Spring 2023, the Leonard Lief Library at Lehman College (CUNY) conducted an assessment of its library chatbot which uses OpenAI’s ChatGPT API with the goal of improving its functionality and performance. This presentation highlights the assessment’s findings, including types of questions asked, and areas where the chatbot succeeds and where it struggles. Additionally, the presenters will detail the creation of a rubric to measure the accuracy and completeness of the chatbot’s answers for users. Through this presentation, the authors will showcase best practices for libraries looking to implement or experiment with chatbots at a time when use of artificial …

Integrating Library Support Into Montclair State University's Student Management System, Jacob Bilek, Perri Moreno
University Libraries Scholarship and Creative Works
Although many universities have adopted student management systems (SMS) such as Navigate or Starfish to track and communicate with students about their academic progress, libraries have had little involvement with these platforms. This poster presents a case study of a Library’s integration as a referral point in Navigate. Faculty are now able to raise ad-hoc alerts that refer students to research support at the library. In addition to providing another avenue of research support, librarians are also able to keep faculty informed throughout the process, something not integrated into other systems of library support.
Objective 1: Observe a case study …
Using Oer To Champion Dei Amid Anti-Dei Legislation, Nancy A. Henke
Using Oer To Champion Dei Amid Anti-Dei Legislation, Nancy A. Henke
About OER
As anti-DEI legislation spreads and the February 2025 “Dear Colleague” letter from the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights deems DEI programs federally unlawful, faculty—particularly contingent instructors—may self-censor DEI discussions out of concern for job security. This lightning talk examines how OER librarians can support faculty in navigating these challenges by leveraging adaptable Open Educational Resources (OER) and open pedagogy to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Reframing Information Seeking In The Age Of Generative Ai: A Critical And Humanistic Approach, Joseph Kevin Sebastian
Reframing Information Seeking In The Age Of Generative Ai: A Critical And Humanistic Approach, Joseph Kevin Sebastian
Library Faculty Research
Information-seeking has long been the subject of theoretical modeling, often drawing from cognitive, behavioral, computational, and even evolutionary perspectives to explain how individuals navigate, filter, and utilize information. Several dominant frameworks—Carol Kuhlthau’s Information Search Process, Marcia Bates’ Berrypicking Model, Peter Pirolli & Stuart Card’s Information Foraging Theory, Kiyohiko Nakamura’s Information Criteria framework, and Ian Ruthven’s Information Shaping Theory —have provided structured ways of understanding how people interact with information environments. However, while these frameworks offer valuable insights, they often operate within mechanistic or efficiency-driven paradigms, which risk overlooking the complex, embodied, and socioculturally situated nature of human information behaviors. These …

Analysis Of Collaborative Networks Of Distinguished Scientists Based On Strong And Super Relationships:A Case Study Of Nobel Prize Winners, Junwan Liu, Rui Zhang, Hongzhe Sui
Journal of Scientific Information Research
[Purpose/significance]Scientific cooperation has become an important feature to promote scientific and tech⁃nological breakthroughs and original innovation. Exploring the laws and patterns of scientific cooperation among distinguished scientists can help provide decision-making references for the country to cultivate leading talents and establish high-performance teams. [Method/process]In this paper, we take 145 Nobel Prize winners in natural sciences from 1990 to 2010 as research objects, identify the strong and super relationships in their scientific cooperation and construct their cooperation networks. It further applies social network analysis and network recursive decomposition to analyse the quantitative characteristics of strong and super-relationships of Nobel Laureates and …

Relationship Between Academic Influence And Institutional Cooperation In Specific Fields:Evidence From The Computer Science Domain, Yukai Yang, Yi Zhao, Chengzhi Zhang
Journal of Scientific Information Research
[Purpose/ significance]In scientific collaboration, institutions are the primary driving units of scientific research. Compared to intra-institutional collaboration, inter-institutional collaboration often has the potential to produce high-impact papers. Therefore, studying fine-grained collaboration at the institutional level holds significant importance.[Method/process]To explore the relationship between different types of institutional cooperation and academic influence, this paper classifies institutions and defines various types of cooperation. Using network analysis methods, it investigates the relationship between network indicators of different types of institutional cooperation and academic influence. [Result/conclusion]Taking the computer science domain as an example, the analysis of the relationship between network indicators of different types of …

Virtual Bodies, Virtual Worlds (Engl 093a) Final Project, Amanda Licastro
Library Staff Works
For your final project you will use all of the readings and discussions we have had throughout this semester to inspire your own creation: a virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR) experience intended to teach one of the fictional texts we’ve read. The goal is to educate your audience, particularly to explain or enhance the reading experience through immersive content. You should draw on your own personal experience, criticism of the novel, and other reliable, scholarly sources to write a pitch – and ultimately a formal proposal – for this short extended reality (XR) application. Again, your immersive experience …

University Libraries & Learning Sciences Faculty and Staff Publications
The author created this supplementary data file during a research study completed in January 2025. For a sample of 233 university libraries located in the United States, the author examined current and archived versions of the organizations’ websites and noted changes in links to library-specific accounts on popular social media platforms. The goal of this research was to explore how academic libraries have responded to a period of significant change and disruption in the social media landscape. The Excel file contains the final version of the compiled data, including URLs for the reviewed websites and Internet Archive Wayback Machine captures …
