As business schools expand their focus on sustainability, librarians can play a key role in connecting research discovery tools with accreditation and curriculum goals. At Western Michigan University, I’ve worked closely with faculty teaching sustainable business practices. I’ve seen the growing need to assess how faculty research aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly as part of the AACSB accreditation process and the incorporation of sustainability into strategic plans.

Across the 12 regional Federal Reserve banks, more than 400 economists produce hundreds of freely accessible working papers each year. Until recently, there was not a single resource with which to stay current on their release. In response, librarians across the Fed spearheaded a new initiative: A monthly email digest, Latest Working Papers from the Federal Reserve Banks, now delivers new economic research directly to subscribers. In fewer than 30 days following its initial issue in July 2024, Latest Working Papers from the Federal Reserve Banks gained more than 1,300 subscribers in more than 30 countries on six continents. It is possible to expand the reach of programming by collaborating with other libraries and community partners. Many business/finance/career development programs tend to pull small audiences. By working with other partners it is possible to offer more programs, typically virtual programs, with less effort for each library, and get a higher turnout at the same time. The Northbrook Library has engaged in 3 different partnerships since the pandemic began on a variety of topics and seen attendance reach numbers impossible for individual libraries to attain. This will look at these three partnerships and the results they have had.

This lightning talk highlights the role of the Thomas Mahaffey Jr. Business Library in empowering graduate students participating in an experiential immersion program referred to as Grow Irish. The Grow Irish program at the Mendoza College of Business sends students for a week to work directly with domestic and international companies on real world issues facing the business environment. Launched in 2024, the Midwest Entrepreneurship Case Competition (MECC) is a regional case competition organized by business librarians and designed for undergraduate students across the Midwest. The competition helps students strengthen their business research skills while competing for prize incentives, generously sponsored by vendors of widely used business databases.

In addition to supporting student learning, MECC facilitates meaningful collaboration among business librarians involved in planning and implementation. Evolving Trends: A Bibliometric Analysis Of Academic Librarians’ Publications At Twelve Aau Member Universities, Pete E. Pascuzzi, Jason B. Reed, Greenley Goedde Creech

Libraries Faculty and Staff Scholarship and Research

The goal of this bibliometric study was to explore the broader publication patterns of academic librarians in both information and library science (ISLS) and interdisciplinary research for the years 2009 - 2023. Web of Science data were collected for twelve academic libraries. The results showed that while the number of ISLS publications has dropped, interdisciplinary publications have increased dramatically with a broad range of disciplines represented, and collaborations in the medical sciences were a major contributor to this increase. The study suggests that some academic libraries have shifted their priorities over the past fifteen years and that the assessment of …

An Analysis Of Hybrid/Remote Work Eligibility In Academic Librarian Job Advertisements, Ruth S. Connell, Meris Mandernach Longmeier

This paper seeks to capture changing policies and approaches to hybrid and remote work in academic libraries following the COVID-19 pandemic. For this study, job advertisements were gathered and those hiring managers surveyed. Results show hybrid/remote positions have competitive salaries, many types of academic library positions have hybrid eligibility, and campus and library policies regarding hybrid/remote work and their inclusion in job postings continue to evolve. Despite the potential recruitment benefits of these flexible work arrangements, many who offer them are not including this information in their job advertisements; therefore, job candidates should ask or negotiate for this benefit.

Empowering Researchers Through An Open Access Publishing Fund: A Case Study Of Clemson University Libraries, Karen Burton, Amal Mostafa

This session explores Clemson Libraries’ Open Access Publishing Fund’s transition from a “first come, first served” to a rubric-based model. We’ll discuss implementation challenges, key insights from faculty surveys, and subsequent rubric revisions, highlighting the importance of adaptability, continuous improvement, and using a data-informed approach to meet the evolving needs of researchers.

Evidence-Based Shared Agendas For Scholarship On Teaching With Primary Sources: Reflections On A Bibliometric Analysis, Jen Hoyer, Anne Bahde

Publications and Research

This article explores how scholarship about teaching with primary sources (TPS) has evolved over time and what future directions past work might suggests. Using bibliometric analysis and visualization tools, we examined how TPS work has grown; what fields and disciplines focus on this work; key themes and issues; and what scholarship has been influential to the field. These insights led to reflections on disconnects across the field, considerations for publishing about TPS, and the potential of pedagogical standards and guidelines. Finally, this article concludes with recommendations on how this analysis points to possibilities for shared education, space, conversation, and products.
