The intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and open educational resources (OER) holds significant potential for transforming education and scaling innovation. This presentation will offer an overview of the existing scholarly literature to describe the current landscape, including the opinions, opportunities, challenges, risks, and emerging trends. AI can play a pivotal role in enhancing the adoption, adaption, and authorship of OER, both through small experiments and larger theoretical discussions. The University of Arkansas’ organizational structure for the institutional repository and other publishing ventures underwent significant changes with the creation of a new department in July 2023, the resignation of the IR coordinator who had been the sole developer of the IR since its inception, the move of IR supervision to the department head in January 2024, and the hiring of a new IR coordinator in July 2024. Mastering legal citation means understanding multiple citation systems. In addition to the Bluebook, fifty states produce fifty sets of laws, and each state decides how it wants its own materials to be cited. For case law, the Bluebook advises authors to use the West Reporter citations if available, but to add public domain citations if a state uses them. However, a state’s internal rules may require citation to the official state reports. All this creates a maze of rules that practitioners need to follow. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines include various programming needs across institutional levels. In high school settings, STEM programs are designed to encourage critical thinking and interest in STEM careers. At postsecondary institutions, STEM disciplines allow students to earn credentials to enter different career sectors. However, some STEM educators are transforming how they perceive their discipline by incorporating innovative practices into their work. Instructional materials (i.e., textbooks, lab manuals, and other ancillary materials) allow educators to diversify their teaching style. Learn about the steps and challenges involved in piloting an open access repository for assignments that challenge students to use AI in intellectually rigorous ways. Whether you’re new to generative AI or a seasoned ChatGPT user, this session will give you the tools to facilitate peer-to-peer sharing of faculty-generated and reviewed teaching activities at your institution. Ask questions and discuss potential difficulties with an interdisciplinary team of presenters, including a graduate instructor and fellow at WashU’s CTL, an award-winning professor and director of the CTL, and an experienced academic librarian and expert in digital publishing and repository services.

In this session, the presenters will describe the experience of adopting an open educational resource for a course, the motivation to adapt that open educational resource, and the steps they took to manage an OER adaptation project . The participants will be engaged with prompting questions and conversation points during each section of the presentation, and they will be given time to brainstorm and discuss the challenges, motivations, tools, and support they have at their own campuses to take on similar projects.

In recent years, there has been a surge of attempts to censor library books across America, leading to record numbers of challenges in 2022 and 2023. According to ALA, in 2023 titles representing the voices and lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC individuals made up 47% of those targeted in censorship attempts. These represent the tip of the iceberg as documented book challenges do not include self-censorship on the part of publishers (such as Scholastic's controversial attempt to segregate diverse titles in 2023) or by librarians making purchasing decisions in hostile environments. Photographer Clinton Wright documented the everyday lives and experiences of the African American community in Las Vegas' Historic Westside from 1964 to 1971. He later donated his collection of photographic negatives to the Special Collections and Archives at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Libraries. Although the collection is open to the public, physical access is limited to the Special Collections Reading Room, which may restrict usability for some researchers and community members. This project highlights the importance of digitization and metadata workflows in improving access to and visibility of archival materials.

Health Matters! is a English-language health literacy resource designed for pediatric patients and their families. Written at an approximately 6th-grade reading level, it supports patient education through engaging coloring and activity pages.

This booklet version includes a smaller selection of materials from the larger Health Matters! book. Developed for use in both hospital settings and the broader community, the resource promotes learning through interactive, age-appropriate activities.

This printable PDF version contains the complete collection of activities and comprises 16 pages. The resource was commissioned by Children's Health and prepared by Your Very Favorite.

They can take many forms-- learning modules, video lectures, etc.-- but they are most commonly known as free online textbooks. The University Library celebrated its first Valentine’s Day @ the Library event in 2024 with the aim of promoting government resources. To capture patron attention this event highlighted free printable Valentine cards available from various government websites. To support this activity, digital posters were created promoting government resources, and an information table was set up featuring some of the printable Valentine cards and promotional material from the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP). With positive response towards programming, we are expecting to continue this event in the future.
