Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity (EDI) initiatives in public libraries are noble and endless endeavors that take many forms of action. Obviously, no one community, nor library, is the same. Consequently, no one community and/or library-centered EDI journey is the same. However, interestingly, progressive Illinois (IL) state libraries have walked the same roads. Interestingly, these realizations have led to a shift in priority and strategic focus resulting in many of these libraries to take action by contracting consultants to conduct full-scale equity assessments. This ethnographic essay explores the author’s journey in understanding, contending with, and building a career in academic libraries that is affirming to their Black and agender identity. The essay discusses the hypervisibility of the author’s race in libraries, in contrast to the invisibility of their transness, and how that contrast has affected how they navigate their work as a pre-tenure librarian.

Abstract

This paper explained the influence of technological readiness on adoption of artificial intelligence technology, using data collected through Google form from 52 librarians in Nigeria. The study adopted descriptive survey research design and adapted the Technological Readiness Index 2.0 to design structured questionnaire on level of technological readiness among librarians in Nigeria. In addition, data was collected on demographic factors and prevalent artificial intelligent technologies adopted by the librarians. Findings reveal that Google Assistant is the prevalent artificial intelligence technology adopted by the librarians in Nigeria. The study aimed to assess the presence of human resources, electronic infrastructure, network services, and programs in these libraries. The article presents findings on the usage, demographics, and correlation of Academic Social Networking Sites (ASNSs) among faculties in Bangalore University and Tumkur University. The study found that there is a high level of usage of ASNSs and Social Networking Sites (SNSs) among faculties in both universities, with slight gender and subject-wise variations in their usage. The study also investigated the awareness and usage of various ASNSs and SNSs, finding that ResearchGate and Academia.edu are more commonly used ASNSs among faculties compared to SNSs. Assessing the expertise of researchers has garnered increased interest recently. This heightened focus arises from the growing emphasis on interdisciplinary science and the subsequent need to form expert teams. When forming these teams, the coordinators need to assess expertise in fields that are often very different from theirs. The conventional reliance on signals of success, prestige, and academic impact can unintentionally perpetuate biases within the assessment process.
