Purpose: This literature review aims to synthesize records and information management (RIM) with the professional literature of industrial/organizational (I/O) psychology to explain undesirable recordkeeping behaviors that may manifest in employees who interact with business records. Design/methodology/approach: The author’s views are based on a literature review of both records management and organizational psychology trends and draw on case studies that identify undesirable recordkeeping behavior. Findings: There is considerable overlap between the problems encountered by RIM professionals and the answers offered by I/O psychology. During the summer of 2023, librarians at the University of Rochester encouraged use of the LabArchives for Education module by introducing it to librarians and faculty. We did an environmental scan of the literature and the vendor website to glean benefits and challenges of using this tool. All liaison librarians were encouraged to get accounts and play with the tool. We started hosting vendor provided webinars and inviting discussion. I'll share the process and results of our efforts.

Lantern Slides For Engineering Instruction In The Early 20th Century, Jill H. Powell

Cornell's Engineering Library received a donation of some 360 lantern slides from the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, which were used as visual aids in industrial engineering classes in the 1920s-1930s. They include pictures of machines, people operating machines, organized recreation in factories, automobile assembly, and sample hiring practices, many of which were discriminatory. We would like to get the slides digitized, and will discuss the experience of applying for a grant.

Onboarding and training new staff can be time consuming to plan, organize, and execute. When USM’s Technical Services department recently experienced a period of reorganization and staff turnover, it meant that there were fewer resources at hand to devote to training newly hired staff and bringing them up to speed on work processes. To help alleviate the workload of planning and executing training, we began implementing the use of various dynamic and interactive online tools, including a Kanban task manager, virtual meetings, instant messaging software, and shared documents. Sixty-eight institutions in the SCELC Consortium signed a Springer Nature Open Access or "transformative agreement" starting in 2023. This presentation will take a look at the SCELC publishing data leading up to the agreement from 2018 to 2022, and also a look at the publishing data for 2023ytd, in order to study the effects of such an agreement. The 2023 data carries an explicit comparison of downloads of the open access papers published with SCELC authors to the closed access papers published by non-SCELC authors in the same journals for the same period of time. The ODI Conformance Checklist for Libraries provides a structured and practical tool for libraries to assess and improve their discovery practices, ultimately leading to a better user experience for library patrons. Employed as an assessment tool, the ODI Checklist supports self assessment, vendor assessment, benchmarking, and continuous improvement. As such, technical service units will benefit from repeating the checklist regularly over time. This poster presents the ODI Conformance Checklist as an internal assessment tool and highlights ways in which we are using its findings to identify and prioritize improvements to discovery workflows and practices.

Creating and managing database search forms can feel like a daunting task. Vendor form builders often produce overweight, complex, heavily styled code that may not support remote authentication or meet accessibility standards, are hard to reformat, are easy to break, and stop working the moment the vendor updates the platform. To address these challenges, we have developed a single, streamlined codebase that can be reused to create search forms for most databases that support stable URLs for result lists. The BYU Library is creating an Inclusive Metadata Policy for metadata creators to use when creating and remediating descriptions to be more inclusive. Accompanying the policy is a companion document with recommendations and examples, including links to many external resources. In addition to working with stakeholders in the library to develop the policy, we consulted with the University’s Office of Belonging. This presentation describes the process we used to undertake the creation of the library policy and recommendations document.

Expanding Our Reach: Incorporating Government Resources In Poster Presentations, Raquel Estrada

With the overall success of the poster presentations being created by the UTRGV University Library for different occasions and themes, we opted to bring government resources whenever possible into new poster presentations to reach a wider audience. After careful consideration, creating a slide(s) where we added links and QR codes to various resources including government resources worked best and could easily be replicated and fit within many of the poster presentations or displays being planned. Adding the FDLP logo was an added bonus that helped identify FDLP resources as well as promote the library as a depository library.
