“How we done it good” publications—a genre concerning project-based approaches that describe how (and sometimes why) something was done—are often rebuked in the library research community for lacking traditional scientific validity, reliability, and generalizability. While scientific methodologies may be a common approach to research and inquiry, they are not the only methodological paradigms. This research posits that the “how we done it good” paradigm in librarianship reflects a valid and legitimate approach to research. Keeping our libraries “Open to All” includes providing online content that students can easily navigate whenever and wherever they are. Designing from the student perspective requires data, but design research methods can be intimidating and time-consuming. During this interactive session, you’ll learn two design research techniques, card sorting and task-based usability testing. You will gain hands-on experience in planning, designing, and conducting both research methods, including practical tips we gleaned from our own redesign of our research guides.

The Anchor: 2018

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Use And Awareness Of Reference Management Software Among Community College Students, Ajatshatru Pathak, Sarah Johnson,

Publications and Research

This research study investigates the use and awareness of reference management software (RMS) among community college students. An in-person survey was conducted in April and May 2017 at two mid-sized urban public community colleges in New York City. Researchers recruited 124 participants for this survey. The 13-item survey instrument was designed to determine participants’ awareness and use of RMS. The results show a low awareness and use of RMS among community college students regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, field of study, undergraduate class level, English proficiency, or academic level. The Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) comprises 128 diverse member libraries, including 13 public universities, 39 community colleges, and 76 private, research, and special libraries. In 2016, member libraries began to ask CARLI staff about joining the Open Textbook Network (OTN), a membership organization anchored at the University of Minnesota that promotes access, affordability, and student success through the use of open textbooks. Part of the University of Illinois System, CARLI is funded by State of Illinois appropriations and at the time was unable to afford the OTN membership fee due to the historic 736-day “budget …

This poster illustrates basic introduction and concepts of linked data and how it relates to RDA and Bibframe. Currently catalogers in libraries are struggling with learning these new concepts and keeping up with our traditional cataloging knowledge and workflows. Linked data brings us a step closer to global bibliographic control. The MARC record is not going away any time soon but catalogers should be aware of these concepts and models as they are being developed for our workflows in the future.

Emerging Roles Of Health Information Professionals For Library And Information Science Curriculum Development: A Scoping Review, Jinxuan Ma, Lynne Stahl, Erica Knotts

Objective: This scoping review identified the emerging and evolving roles of health information professionals (HIPs) in a range of tasks and settings, as they adapt to varied user needs, while keeping up with changing medical landscapes to provide evidence-based information support in grand rounds and scholarly research. The review aims to inform library school students about expected entry-level job qualifications and faculty about adaptable changes to specialized HIP curricula.

Methods: The authors examined 268 peer-reviewed journal articles that concentrated on evolving HIP roles, professional settings, and contexts by retrieving results from several multidisciplinary databases.

The MS Applied Nutrition program at UNE has collaborated with DUNE to provide a platform for students to share their academic work with peers and colleagues, and to develop nutrition education resources for practitioners around the world.

Imagine being in the Moravian settlement of Nazareth, Pennsylvania during January and February, 1797. The weekly concerts at the Nazareth Paedagogium included selections from Handel's Messiah, symphonies by Haydn, Eichner, Pleyel and Stamitz, Rolle's Thirza und ihre Sohne (divided over three weeks), Haydn's Stabat Mater (divided over two weeks) and the first section of Graun's Der Tod Jesu. This schedule of performances were recorded in the Verzeichniss derer Musicalien welche im Concert sind gemacht worden, Nazareth, Pennsylvania, 1796 zum 1845.
