The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Value Institute, which falls under the hospital’s Quality Department, has contributed to evidence-based practice (EBP) culture through education, evidence synthesis services, and the development of clinical decision support tools. Three members of the Value Institute -- a librarian, Clinical Evidence-Based Analyst, and Senior Value Specialist -- have taught a variety of EBP courses to clinicians over the years. However, because of increasing course dropout rates, the Value Institute conducted focus groups to identify ways to redesign the course. Introduction: The Course Textbook Reference Collection has annually prepared for HWCOM programs based on the course textbook lists from each program coordinator. Librarians are always required to first look for textbooks in an electronic format:

HWCOM Library = Nearly 100% digital

Limited space for print copies

Rowan University achieved the R3 Carnegie Classification in 2013 resulting in significant changes in strategic hires and investment of funds to support its newfound research mission. The institution has seen rapid growth as well from about 14000 students in 2013 to 18000 students in 2018. Forty new tenure-track faculty will begin in Fall 2018 and the university just announced a $5 million research fund as one such initiative to support and further research for its faculty and researchers. This lightening talk will give an overview of an active-learning workshop at Lehman College for faculty developing OER. The goals of the 90 minute workshop are to provide practical exercises through which faculty learn how to identify, provide attribution for, and reuse materials that are under copyright, open access (public domain) or under Creative Commons licenses. Research Guides and tutorials on copyright and Creative Commons have been provided to faculty, but the content can be difficult for the novice to absorb. University libraries across the country are investing in Digital Humanities and digital scholarship initiatives, providing support for research and teaching using digital tools and methods. Because digital scholarship offers scholars new ways to visualize and analyze their research, which communicates such research in new ways, it has clear lines of connection with scholarly communications. Combining these two unique areas of library activity offers opportunities for new library research by leveraging methods from DH to tackle problems in scholarly communications. The shift toward a system of research and scholarship that is open by default is currently in progress. Since 2013, US federal research agencies have required that articles reporting publicly funded research be publicly accessible within 12 months. The Gates Foundation now requires immediate open access for funded research, and a group of 10 national funders in Europe have committed to implementing a similar policy by 2020. Presenters will discuss their investigation into using Wikipedia to identify author characteristics in order to enhance bibliographic records using terminology from the new controlled vocabulary, Library of Congress Demographic Group Terms (LCDGT). Focusing on African American writers, the session will discuss workflows, ethical issues, and opportunity cost in assigning LCDGT terms using citations showing self-identification to satisfy Library of Congress standards.

In this paper the author examines from a library perspective some of the complications with transitioning to an open access model for journal publishing; how costs that support publishing efforts may shift from readers to researchers; what’s happening within the library community with regard to assessing the value of subscriptions; and what universities may come to expect from content providers as private funders take a more visible role in mandating the “openness” of research information.

Contribution Of Asian Open Access Repositories To Opendoar, Rajul Sharma

The study reports the evaluation of open access repositories in the Asia continent, identified through OpenDOAR; Directory of Open Access Repositories (http://www.open doar.org/). The findings of the study indicate that Japan has the maximum number of Open Access Repositories, and following it is India. Most of the repositories fall under the category of institutional repositories being in English language. The most common software for creation and management of these repositories is Dspace. Maximum repositories are multidisciplinary in nature with health and medicine on the top, if seen subject wise.

Availability And Use Of Information Resources And Services By Teachers Of Pre-University Colleges In Shivamogga District: A Study, Narasappa K C

Abstract:

In this study examines the use information sources and services by the teachers of pre-university colleges in shivamogga taluck. Total 170 questionnaires were distributed to the teachers, out of which 159 questionnaires were received back. The findings of the study shows that the majority 50.94% of teachers are daily visit the library. The majority of 62(38.99%) respondents are satisfied with the library location and reading room facility. The study shows that the 90(56.61%) of teachers opinion disagree with availability of inadequate library building in pre-university colleges and only 13(8.17%) of teachers opinion strongly agree with inadequate library building. The Anchor: 2018

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.
