One-Stop Shop For The Research Lifecycle: Effects Of High-Impact Educational Practices On Library Spaces And Services In The Near- And Long-Term, Ngoc-Yen Tran

Faculty and Staff Publications

Higher education institutions of all sizes are focused on increasing retention and graduation rates and improving student engagement and learning through the usage of High-Impact Educational Practices (HIPs). This emphasis on HIPs have changed (and will continue to change) the spaces and services that university and college libraries offer, especially as libraries become the all-inclusive place in supporting the research lifecycle. Therefore, it is important for library staff to understand what HIPs are, how institutions are using them, and the impact that they already have and may have on libraries in the near- and long-term.

Of Maps And Courtrooms: Evaluating Information Sources, Terry Robertson Feb 2018

Of Maps And Courtrooms: Evaluating Information Sources, Terry Robertson

Seminary Scholarship Symposium

How are novice researchers to evaluate library resources in a topic for which they have limited prior knowledge? Kuhlthau has described two phases in a typical student research process: exploring and documenting. This poster suggests two familiar metaphors that provide clues to evaluating library-mediated sources. During the exploration phase, the metaphor of the map is discussed. What makes for a good map? Many of these same characteristics should be present in the sources that are accessed. Typical characteristics of maps demonstrating the values of soundness and reliability that can be applied to library-mediated resources include: (a) currency, (b) credentialed authors …

A Short Introduction, Ellianie Vega Feb 2018

A Short Introduction, Ellianie Vega

Blogging the Library

I’m a sophomore English w/ Writing Concentration and Women and Gender Studies Major, as well as a Japanese minor. When I was growing up, my public library was a place of refuge and exploration, but it I didn’t exactly consider a profession in the library sciences until recently. As I grew from a book-devouring child to a book-devouring teenager, I realized I was beginning to fall out of love with libraries, and I couldn’t exactly pen why. When I examined the root of my sudden falling out, I found a strange answer; my public and high school libraries didn’t have …

Copyright, Fair Use, Scholarly Communication, etc.

This report summarizes results from research with the professionals who make up the software preservation community about how their understanding of copyright intersects with their preservation mission. Professionals typically face significant challenges from perceived copyright barriers. They tend to assume that a license or other express permission from a copyright holder is required before embarking on a wide variety of preservation activities, and typically find that such permissions are difficult or impossible to obtain. In the absence of reliable information to guide informed risk assessment, professionals act on the reasonable assumption that high levels of legal risk could be associated …

Influence Of Performance Expectancy And Facilitating Conditions On Use Of Digital Library By Engineering Lecturers In Universities In South-West, Nigeria, Saheed Hamzat, Iyabo Mabawonku

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Digital library (DL) is an important information system which provides all-encompassing benefits to various stakeholders in scholarship and research through its provision of access to immediate and up-to-date information resources. The review of literature indicated low use of this system by engineering lecturers owing to system characteristics; and pay little or no attention to factors such as Performance Expectancy (PE) and Facilitating Conditions (FC) on the use of this system by engineering lecturers in universities. This study therefore investigated the influence of performance expectancy and facilitating conditions on the use of digital library by engineering lecturers in universities in South-west, …
