#Textbookbroke: What's The Most You've Spent On Textbooks In One Semester?, Scholarly Communications

Open Access Week at Gettysburg College

Throughout Open Access Week 2017, a large graph hung on the main floor of Musselman Library where students shared how much they spent on textbooks in a semester. Under the title of "#textbookbroke," this crowdsourced data was displayed to the campus community as it was gathered over the course of the week.

In the Spring of 2017, our library conducted a book drive for the Malawi College of Health Sciences in Blantyre, Malawi. The College’s library serves about 700 students, as well as health care professionals from a neighboring hospital. However, the library lacks sufficient resources, with most of their books being outdated or in poor condition, which diminishes health care quality in Malawi.

Digital Commons - Heartland User Group + IR Day

In Scholars’ Mine, we have heavily customized the metadata in our series, event communities, journals and galleries. This allows us to more easily track the content in our IR, discover errors, find opportunities to make the IR more robust, and run statistics.

The Content Inventory report is an incredibly useful tool in managing Digital Commons because it combines data across series rather that our having to export each series, adjust the metadata fields and then combine them. One example of this is our faculty works which are deposited in departments and filtered into a Faculty Research and Creative Works collection. …
