This poster describes a major service realignment that integrated Instructional Designers, Media Specialists, Librarians, and Digital Scholarship Specialists into a new unit oriented around providing cutting edge technologies and services to students, faculty and staff. Highlighted is the "digital assignment lifecycle," which serves as the philosophical underpinning to the structure of the unit, as well as illustration of new makerspace oriented facilities.

Reference Services In Liberal Arts Libraries, Emma R. Oxford

This study addresses a gap in the literature regarding reference services at liberal arts institutions. The author conducted a literature review to examine the existing body of research on reference services and distributed a survey to the 80 member libraries of the Oberlin Group in February 2015. The study found that a wide range of reference practices are in place at liberal arts libraries and focused especially on the use of a designated reference desk, which is widespread. However, there is a correlation between higher librarian satisfaction with reference services and the absence of a desk. Comments from respondents are …

The theory used as analytical scalpel is the Cultural Linguistics Theory (CLT). This study shows 5 forms of BP used in LE community, which are the traditional house construction BP (THC), going to sow BP (GS), delivering dowry BP (DD), going to school BP (GSC), and deceased person BP (DP). This article discusses the typology of a hand stencil pattern cave painting located in Leang Uhallie, Bone district, South Sulawesi. Irving Rouse’s taxonomy classification methods were used to find the typology of the hand stencil pattern. This study shows that there are three forms of hand stencil with 21 variants. This typologycal study of the hand stencil also shows the dominant and the unique pattern form of Leang Uhallie.

The goal of the study is to review changes in dryland farming culture of atoni pah meto in North Center Timor District caused by global climate changes. The research method used was qualitative descriptive: the data collecting method used was interviews, observations, and the document study. Research results prove that the atoni pah meto which consists of eighteen farming rituals, five work patterns, work division between genders, and work ethos, has shifted. This paper attempts to highlight the growth and development of Spintronics publication based on Web of Science database during the period 2000-2014. A total of 6195 publications were published on spintronics, which received 134,467 citations. The average number of publications per year was 413 and the average number of citations per publication was 21.71. The publications peaked in 2014 with 874 publications, whereas the highest number of citations 16,696 was received in 2005. The highest number of publications was from USA with 1506 (24.31%) publications and 64.479 (47.95%) citations followed by China with 1.425 (23%) publications, 16.264 (12.10%) citations and …

With the passing of the USA Patriot Act in 2001 following the events of 9/11, libraries on the national scale have had to staunchly defend issues of privacy and confidentially more-so than ever before. Evidence of this lies not only in statements within the ALA’s Resolution on the USA PATRIOT Act and Libraries but also in other core documents which guide policy development in public libraries (ALA 2005). Intellectual Freedom and privacy are two of the major issues addressed and protected by the American Library Association through the Office of Intellectual Freedom and the Library Bill of Rights (ALA 1996).

Can Student Assistants Effectively Provide Chat Reference Services? Student Transcripts Vs. Librarian Transcripts, Vera J. Lux, Linda Rich

To determine if undergraduate student information desk assistants were effectively staffing the library's chat reference service, librarians at Bowling Green State University embarked on a chat transcript analysis project, comparing the performance of librarians to student assistants. Although student desk assistants generally did not perform as well as librarians, it was concluded that with a renewed emphasis on continual oversight and training, students were a very viable option for staffing a chat reference service.

The Parrish Library Case Competition is an annual library-administered, library-sponsored case competition where teams of undergraduate students compete against one another to make better evidence-based decisions for business problems. This article includes a description the case competition as a resource for other libraries interested in sponsoring similar case competitions as part of their information literacy programs. Students who participated in the case competition saw their learning grow as assessed through questionnaires and focus groups. Students who had not taken an information literacy course perceived their understanding as lower than those who had taken a course.

From Fief To Clan: Boisot’S Information Space Model As A Documentary Theory For Cultural And Institutional Analysis, Lin Wang, Michael Buckland

Max Boisot (1943-2011) and his Information Space (I-Space) model are introduced. The I-Space model characterized information flow on three dimensions (codification, abstraction, and diffusion). It can be seen as a document-based model. Boisot and colleagues identifies four types of institutional information practices (bureaucracies, markets, fiefs, and clans). Chinese economic reform in the 1980s is used as a case-study to demonstrate how document configuration and infrastructure is associated with cultural and institutional change. This echoes Suzanne Briet's assertion that documentation is a cultural technique.

The Attitudes Of Princess Nora University Students Towards Using Electronic Information Resources Of The Library, Latifah Alkahtani

This study examined undergraduate students' use of and attitudes towards electronic information resources (EIR). It explored the relationship between the students' attitudes and their use of EIR of the Princess Nora University Library (PNUL). A descriptive as well as correlational survey design was adopted for the study. The findings revealed that the EIR of the academic library are still in the moderate or lower level of utilization, but overall students have shown high acceptance towards using these resources.
