Ebsco's Plumx And Our Institutional Repository (Ir): Integration And Impact At Georgia Southern University, Ashley D. Lowery

In the summer of 2014, Georgia Southern University’s Office of Research & Economic Development acquired PlumX. At this time, the Zach S. Henderson Library staff had already created numerous SelectedWorks faculty profiles in their institutional repository, Digital Commons@Georgia Southern. In order to avoid duplicating work, the Office of Research & Economic Development tasked the presenter with integrating SelectedWorks and PlumX. In this fast learning presentation, GSU’s Ashley Lowery will talk about how the two systems integrate as well as the pros and cons of this integration. She will also discuss the outcomes of marketing PlumX alongside the IR.

Finding Religion: An Analysis Of Theology Libguides, Gerrit Van Dyk

This paper will compare various LibGuides in theology from thirty-seven different institutions. These institutions include universities granting undergraduate and graduate degrees in religion or theology as well as seminaries for professional clergy. Data on LibGuides content, such as books, ebooks, journals, databases, librarian contact information, and others, will be compared and analyzed. Resources especially tailored to religious and theological studies will also be highlighted.

Considering the role of teachers in actualizing the dream of basic education for all, the need for them to be well informed in the profession, and the fact that little attention has been given to them in this area, this paper went to investigate the information needs and seeking behaviour of teachers in Imo state, Nigeria. In 2013, the College of Art, Architecture, and Humanities hosted the first annual Road Scholars lecture series.

The Road Scholars series brings professors from the Tiger’s ACC football rivals to Clemson to present their current research, which is followed by a response from a Clemson humanities faculty member. This year, lectures will be held October 2nd, October 9th, October 16th, November 6th, and November 20th.

Find Your Park Metadata, Rachel Wittmann, Christopher Vinson, Joshua Morgan

Presentations

The Open Parks Network (OPN) project digitized over 330k items from U.S. national and state parks. While the mass digitization effort was a logistically challenging operation, ensuring metadata for this material added another layer of complexity this offsite-managed project. In the best case scenario, the parks provided existing descriptive metadata, but this still lacked preferred elements. In many cases, digitized material had never been cataloged by the park.

To orchestrate adequate descriptive metadata, OPN employed tactics to catalog this large-scale project. This session encourages an exchange of experiences and ideas from others when faced with similar situations.

Reimagining Record Groups: A Case Study And Considerations For Record Group Revision, Matt Gorzalski

The record group hierarchy at Southern Illinois University Carbondale reflects many of the problems noted by record group critics, and has evolved into a burdensome structure. This article describes how previous considerations about creating record groups have influenced revisions of the record group hierarchy at SIUC. The author does not advocate wholesale revision of a hierarchy, but only in areas where the end result creates a sensible and manageable classification system.

W&L Law Fall Scholarship Celebration 2015, Brant J. Hellwig

On September 30, 2015, the Washington and Lee Law Library hosted a Fall Scholarship Celebration. The event took place in the Law Library's third floor reading room from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

On display were dozens of scholarly articles, books, chapters, and amicus briefs authored by the W&L Law faculty and student body during 2014 and 2015, with hundreds of additional works accessible online through the Scholarly Commons institutional repository.

Interrogating Course-Related Public Interest Internships In Communications, Sandra Smeltzer

FIMS Publications

This article examines the benefits and drawbacks of for-credit, unpaid internships geared towards the public good. Attention is focused specifically on communication internships with non- governmental, non-profit, and community-based organizations. Drawing on a series of semi-structured interviews with students, staff, faculty, and host organizations, the author advances a critical model of service learning that more fully recognizes the labour of community partners and encourages students to consider what role they can and should play in advancing the public good. The article also highlights two key issues vis-à-vis public interest internships that are of particular relevance to the field of communications. …

The Anchor: 2015

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.
