This book chapter examines two futures for academic librarians working in access (technical) services: deeper collaboration on data management with faculty and student researchers and expanded access to library resources on the Semantic Web. Both are concerned with data organization, discovery, access, and support of shared data beyond the library. Austin State University (SFASU), we have discovered that there are many complex details to launching a successful online journal-publishing program. In our lead role at SFASU, we have streamlined implementation to make this a relatively straightforward process for the journal managers and editors.

Most of the journal editors with whom we currently work are experienced authors and reviewers, but they rely upon us to assist them with the design, implementation and editorial processes. Austin State University has worked with the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture, and in particular professor David Kulhavy, to digitize and publish online in SFA ScholarWorks the college's scholarly work and history. The latest development from this relationship can be seen in the creation of the East Texas Forest Entomology Seminar event page in SFA ScholarWorks, which documents the seminar's proceedings and history.

Atla As Community Of Faith: Surveying Members’ Relationship To Religious Faith And Atla, John B. Weaver Dr

This paper reports the result of an online survey, entitled “ATLA as a Community of Faith,” which was distributed to ATLA’s 519 members in May 2015. The results of the survey show the diversity of religious beliefs and practices among members of ATLA. The survey also provides evidence that the vast majority of the members of ATLA are professing practitioners of the Christian faith.

Higher education has been hard hit over the last few years dealing with declining budgets and rising costs, growing accreditation standards and surging accreditation reform, and mounting quality assurance activities. This book is well timed, addressing some of the concerns that many academic librar- ians have. As several of the book’s contributors discuss, academic libraries are faced with declining budgets and the need to justify to administrators what librarians do. To accomplish this, librarians and library administrators need to adequately assess library services.

This is a case study about the implementation of an institutional repository (IR) at Marshall University. Libraries have always collected information from a worldwide marketplace and have disseminated these resources locally. The IR has created a new function for the library by making it practical to acquire locally developed resources and to disseminate them freely worldwide. This has altered the traditional role of librarians and suggests a broader set of implications for the future usefulness and relevancy of the IR as doors open to new partnerships that will strengthen the university and the library’s place within it.

Using a facilitator can enhance a library's strategic planning process and lead to the creation of a more clearly articulated strategic plan. Santa Clara University Library used a facilitator for its strategic planning process, which resulted in new vision and mission statements, and a plan centered around five priorities. This article will provide a description of the environment, details of the strategic planning process, the role and benefits of using a facilitator and questions to consider before bringing in a facilitator.
