Abstract

This research investigated the practices of strategic management in academic libraries. The paper is based on a study that was conducted in 2009-2010. Using USIU library as a case study, it aimed to find out the nature of shifting paradigms in information management, establish the key challenges and ascertained how strategic management was practiced. A descriptive research design was used with a sample size of 153 drawn from students, library and teaching staff. Descriptive, inferential statistics and factor analysis were used. Deaccession Of Print Books In A Transitional Age Ii: Business, Science, And Interdisciplinary Studies, David E. Woolwine

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

The paper, by means of citation studies, studies on information seeking behavior, and book format preferences and use, draws conclusions about the deaccession of print books in business, science and interdisciplinary studies in academic libraries. It is argued that deaccession of print books in business and science can proceed more quickly than in the humanities and social sciences. This is especially true for the sciences, with some evidence that print books continue to play a role in business scholarship and teaching. It is difficult to produce generalizations about deaccession in interdisciplinary studies.

The Anchor: 2015

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Open Access Through Institutional Repositories: The A3ir Con Experience, Brittany Blanchard

Institutional Repositories (IRs) are intertwined with the Open Access (OA) movement and are becoming a standard feature for research libraries. Utilizing the open web and indexing for search engines IRs increase visibility and access to scholarly works.

Since it’s creation in September of 2013 the Scholarly Commons currently holds over 4,000 works, that have been downloaded 136,548 times.

The Commons hosted the 2014 A3ircon Proceedings and will be the site hosting 2015’s proceedings. This poster shows how the proceedings were accessed as well as challenges for future conferences.

No Budget, No Experience, No Problem: Creating A Library Orientation Game For Freshman Engineering Majors, Kelly Giles

Libraries

“Mystery at the Library” is a simple, inexpensive game developed as a library orientation activity for freshman engineering students. Players searched the library building and online to find clues and solve the mystery of a stolen book. Feedback from players and library desk staff was used to improve the game over time. A straightforward narrative with puzzles focused on learning objectives kept players engaged and avoided unnecessary confusion. A post-game survey indicated that the game was both helpful and fun for a majority of respondents.

Information Science Faculty Publications

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are key components in the emergent cyber physical systems (CPSs). They may include hundreds of spatially distributed sensors which interact to solve complex tasks going beyond their individual capabilities. Due to the limited capabilities of sensors, sensor actions cannot meet CPS requirements while controlling and coordinating the operations of physical and engineered systems. To overcome these constraints, we explore the ecosystem metaphor for WSNs with the aim of taking advantage of the efficient adaptation behavior and communication mechanisms of living organisms. Abstract

This study was carried out to determine the strategies that may be adopted for the enhancement of Library User Education for the acquisition of library use skills (LUS) in Unity Schools in South East Nigeria. Survey research design was adopted for the study. Out of a population of 29,358, multiple-stage sampling technique was used to select a sample size of 1,053 comprising 480 JS I students, 469 SS III students and 104 staff from the 12 Unity schools under study.
