In 2011, the GW School of Medicine decided to change from a traditional curriculum for the M.D. program to an integrated, systems-based curriculum. Students will move from a traditional 2x2 curriculum (2 pre-clinical years and 2 clinical years) to one in which they complete their pre-clinical training in 18 months followed by 2 1/2 years clinical training. The purpose of this poster is to highlight the ways in which Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library librarians were engaged in and helped with this transition.

Recognizing the consequences of non-compliance with the NIH Public Access Policy (NIHPAP), Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library worked to identify NIHPAP non-compliant papers by GW faculty authors and help Principal Investigators (PI's) and their delegates get them into PubMed Central (PMC).

Objectives

Create and update disaster planning and response materials so that they are accessible at time of need and educate the library's staff on the library's safety and emergency response policies and procedures.

Introduction

This urban health sciences library has experienced a number of potentially serious disaster incidents in the local region in the last fifteen years including terrorist attack, earthquake, fire, tornado, and hurricane. From Student To Teacher And Back Again: How Becoming A Student Has Changed My Teaching Practice, Michelle Price

During the summer of 2014, the science librarian at St. John Fisher College got behind the bench and joined a working group in the cell biology lab. With no formal science education, the first-time pipetter plunged deep into lab culture and worm genetics. Returning to the role of student revealed many unexpected emotions and teachable moments for this veteran library instructor that will reshape her approach to library instruction with science students. Specifically how to address fear and frustration in the classroom, while leaving opportunities for fun.

The Man Who Dies Rich, Dies Disgraced: The Carnegie Vision Of Library As Place, Amanda C.R. Clark

Andrew Carnegie’s vision of the library as a place for intellectual elevation through the introspective act of reading offered the promise of increased prosperity and wisdom to persons in all walks of life. The architecture of Spokane’s Carnegie library spoke of this promise through its neoclassical façade and visual references to an age revered for civilized accomplishment. While some of these sentiments have fallen out of favor, the underlying principle of encouraging curious engagement by inspirational architecture remains true for libraries today.

Instruction librarians from Grand Valley State University will discuss how they scaled up from unshared, nonstandard evaluations to a standard form that would make participant perceptions of library instruction more widely accessible in order to make data driven decisions within the Instruction Program.

Literature searching on the subject of effective library instruction in the use of legal materials reveals that this topic has been extensively researched with regard to law students (graduate, Juris Doctor-seeking candidates); however, the question of library instruction for paralegal students is decidedly under-researched. This paper highlights the development of University education vis-à-vis the emergence and development of digital libraries in Nigeria Universities with specific reference to Northwest Nigeria. Purpose: This paper identifies ICT tools and programmes that are relevant to Igbo studies in tertiary institutions in the South East Nigeria; it examines the opportunities and challenges in applying these technologies in the enhancement and promotion of teaching and learning Igbo in Nigeria universities.

Methodology/Approach: Questionnaire, interviews, and observations were used in collecting data for this study. The population was 118, comprising 31 lecturers and 87 students randomly drawn from the Department of Igbo Studies in six selected tertiary institutions in the South East Nigeria.
