In response to the increased emphasis on preservation and sharing of research data, the UNL Libraries have implemented several services to support researchers. These include data management plan workshops; consultations on data management plans; the UNL Data Repository, where UNL researchers can deposit inactive data; data registry, and persistent identifier allocation.

St. John Fisher College's Lavery Library is focused on assessment. One area being examined is the value of library collections (monographs and videos) in supporting the library's mission. Library Acquisitions and Collection Development is in a prime position to contribute to these efforts in effective, efficient ways. Acquisitions' value will be directly aligned with the Library's strategic goals and outcomes, which have been designed to support the College's strategic goals. Our purchase on demand program began in 2009 with the installation of the GIST software which runs off of ILLiad. We capitalize on the value added service provided by GIST …

The Anchor: 2014

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

As STEM areas increasingly rely on pre-existing data, either to validate or extend the scientific body of knowledge, students who have baseline knowledge of how to find, evaluate, and access data will have an advantage. Accordingly, undergraduate STEM curricula is increasingly focused on research-based group projects that develop professional skills, building the professional portfolio needed for early career scientists, technologists, and engineers. This project works to develop new tools to implement basic data skills within the undergraduate disciplinary curricula. Data narratives or data stories have emerged as a new form of the scholarly communication focused on data. In this paper, we explore the potential value of data narratives and the requirements for data stories to enhance scholarly communication. We examine three types of data stories that form a continuum from the less to the more structured: the DataONE data stories, the Data Curation Profiles, and the Data Descriptors from the journal Scientific Data. Linking publications to published datasets in repositories is an important part of the research lifecycle. However, merely linking them does not ensure reusability. It is important for repositories to develop and provide policies for preservation that support the reusability, including lifecycle, ownership, versioning, and attribution aspects of the scholarly process (Bechhofer et al., 2013). In 2103, the Purdue University Libraries developed and implemented a workflow between its institutional repository, its e-Pubs system and its research data repository, Purdue University Research Repository or PURR (Zilinski et al., forthcoming), as well as journal articles linked to published datasets in PURR. System Function Adoption Of An Open Source Digital Repository System: A Global View, Hsin-Liang Chen, Yin Zhang

University Libraries Faculty Research & Creative Works

This poster reports a project that examines the adoption of system functions of an open source digital repository, DSpace. It also identifies the factors which have influenced the functions' adoption. The data were collected from DSpace user registry from September 2013 to March 2014. A total of 545 repositories in the registry contained system function customizations, representing 533 unique institutions from 95 countries. The preliminary findings indicate that 10 of the 32 available system functions are adopted by over 10% of its members; the majority of repositories are from academia; academic repositories also offer most system functions; and the U.S. …
