การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาการรับรู้เรื่องห้องสมุดสีเขียวของบรรณารักษ์ห้องสมุด มหาวิทยาลัยในด้านแหล่งสารนิเทศที่ได้รับความรู้ เนื้อหาเรื่องห้องสมุดสีเขียวที่รับรู้ การนำเนื้อหาไปใช้และปัญหาในการรับรู้เรื่องห้องสมุดสีเขียว การวิจัยครั้งนี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงสำรวจ โดยใช้แบบสอบถามเป็นเครื่องมือในการเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลจากบรรณารักษ์และบุคลากรวิชาชีพอื่น ๆ ที่ปฏิบัติในห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยที่มีการดำเนินงานห้องสมุดสีเขียวจำนวน 7 แห่ง โดยได้รับแบบสอบถามกลับคืนมาจำนวน 183 ชุด (ร้อยละ 83.18) จากที่ส่งไปทั้งหมด 220 ชุด ผลการวิจัยพบว่าบรรณารักษ์ห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยส่วนใหญ่รับรู้เรื่องห้องสมุดสีเขียวจากแหล่งบนอินเทอร์เน็ต เนื้อหาเรื่องห้องสมุดสีเขียวที่บรรณารักษ์ห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยรับรู้คือเรื่องอาคารห้องสมุด บรรณารักษ์ห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยส่วนใหญ่นำเรื่องการประหยัดพลังงานไปใช้ในระดับมาก และปัญหาในการรับรู้เรื่องห้องสมุดสีเขียว พบว่า บรรณารักษ์ประสบปัญหาในระดับปานกลางและระดับน้อย โดยปัญหาที่มีค่าเฉลี่ยสูงสุด คือ ผู้เชี่ยวชาญมีจำนวนน้อย The objective of this study was to inquire into university librarians’ perception of the green library practices, in terms of, information sources, contents, of contents, and related problems with their perceptive. การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อศึกษาการจัดหาหนังสืออิเล็กทรอนิกส์ในห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยในด้านนโยบาย งบประมาณ การคัดเลือก วิธีการจัดหา ตลอดจนปัญหาที่ห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยประสบในการจัดหาหนังสืออิเล็กทรอนิกส์รวมถึงวิเคราะห์หนังสืออิเล็กทรอนิกส์ที่ห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยจัดหาในด้านภาษา ประเภทและสาขาวิชาการวิจัยครั้งนี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงสำรวจ โดยใช้แบบสอบถามเป็นเครื่องมือในการเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลจากหัวหน้าห้องสมุดหรือบรรณารักษ์ผู้รับผิดชอบการจัดหาหนังสืออิเล็กทรอนิกส์ในห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัย รวมทั้งสิ้น 105 แห่ง ได้รับแบบสอบถามกลับคืนมาจำนวน 94 ชุด (ร้อยละ 89.52) ผลการวิจัยพบว่า ห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยส่วนใหญ่มีการกำหนดนโยบายที่ใช้ในการพิจารณาคัดเลือกหนังสืออิเล็กทรอนิกส์แบบไม่เป็นลายลักษณ์อักษร และใช้เงินรายได้ของมหาวิทยาลัยในการจัดหาหนังสืออิเล็กทรอนิกส์ โดยห้องสมุดทุกแห่งใช้เกณฑ์เนื้อหาสอดคล้องกับหลักสูตรการเรียนการสอนในหมาวิทยาลัยสำหรับปัญหาที่ห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยประสบในการจัดหาหนังสืออิเล็กทรอนิกส์ พบว่า ห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยประสบปัญหา 2 ระดับ คือ ระดับปานกลาง และระดับน้อยโดยปัญหาที่มีค่าเฉลี่ยสูงสุด คือ แหล่งที่ให้เปล่ามีน้อยในส่วนของการวิเคราะห์หนังสืออิเล็กทรอนิกส์ที่ห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยจัดหา พบว่า หนังสืออิเล็กทรอนิกส์จำนวนเกือบทั้งหมดที่ห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยจัดหาเป็นภาษาอังกฤษ ประเภทฐานข้อมูลหนังสืออิเล็กทรอนิกส์ และมีเนื้อหาอยู่ในสาขาวิชามนุษยศาสตร์ The objectives of this research were 1) to study the acquisition of electronic books in university libraries, in terms of, policy, budget, selection, acquisition methods and problems of electronic book acquisitions; and 2) to analyze the acquired electronic books is university libraries regarding language, type and subject. Collaborative Librarianship

For academic libraries wishing to extend their outreach, existing and potential short-term, project-based collaborations are the low-hanging fruit. Such partnerships include student organizations, various institutional offices, and councils of one kind or another. Keys to success for libraries include flexibility, personal relationships, openness to work outside of academic units and outside of the library, strategic planning, knowing the resources needed and those that already exist, and a desire and ability to move from conversation to action. This article presents data-rich findings of a comprehensive follow-up study on the patron-driven/demand-driven ebook acquisitions (DDA) plan chronicled in two prior articles from the DDA ebook plan's October 2011 inception. Into the third fiscal year, print vs. ebook usage preferences have begun to emerge, and the results broken out by discipline are presented.

Provenance, Journal of the Society of Georgia Archivists

In 1929, the Georgia General Assembly approved a resolution calling on each county to appoint a historian to compile the county’s history for the state’s bicentennial (1732-1932). Ruth Blair, director of the state’s Department of Archives and History, worked closely with the county historians. Their correspondence tells us much about the project and about Blair’s role in the project’s success.

Introduction:

Western Kentucky University Library had a large two-level, but largely unused lobby that had once been the library’s entrance but had been closed as a new entrance was created. By 2002, it sat empty and all but devoid of human traffic just outside our Reference area. Also, in 2002, Reference statistics were down, as was Circulation and library usage in general. Dean Binder believed that with the renovation and development of this former lobby, the library would realize an increase in campus visibility and library usage would increase.

Text 4 Health: Addressing Consumer Health Information Needs Via Text Reference Service, Van M. Ta Park

This study seeks to provide empirical evidence about how health-related questions are answered in text reference service in order to further the understanding of how to best use texting as a reference service venue to fulfill people’s health information needs. Two hundred health reference transactions from My Info Quest, the first nation-wide collaborative text reference service, were analyzed identify the types of questions, length of transactions, question-answering behavior, and information sources used in the transactions. Findings indicate that texting-based health reference transactions are usually brief, and cover a wide variety of topics. The most popular questions are those seeking general …

This article presents a practical method for formative, self-reflective assessment of the liaison activities of individual librarians and to evaluate liaison activities in general. Many libraries evaluate their liaison programs, but few evaluate the effectiveness of individual librarians’ efforts within the program.

Librarians of Rollins College redefined and re-branded their liaison program as “Your Librarian.” As part of this effort, the author surveyed the faculty and assessed the program and the effectiveness of individual librarians. Scholarly inquiry about the nature and significance of knowledge has been shaped by disciplinary traditions and priorities that define “knowledge” differently and result in disconnected literatures. In the mid to late twentieth century, library science educator Jesse Shera sought to bridge the conceptual gap between epistemological and sociological approaches to knowledge in proposing a new discipline he called social epistemology. Around the same time, long-term projects by the economist Fritz Machlup and the physical chemist turned philosopher of science Michael Polanyi did not merely combine existing disciplinary approaches but transcended conventional frameworks for conceptualizing knowledge. Triple Bottom Line Accounting (TBLA) refers to a method of measuring the economic, environmental, and community service impacts of an organization rather than the traditional practice of measuring just the financial bottom line. This chapter explores TBLA from a historical point-of-view; offers examples in higher education and discusses the implications for academic libraries. It concludes with ideas for the implementation of TBLA in libraries.

Purpose - Google Scholar was used to locate free full-text versions of computer science research papers to determine what proportion could be freely accessed.
Design/methodology/approach - A sample of 1967 conference papers and periodical articles from 2003-2010, indexed in the ACM Guide to Computing Literature, was searched for manually in Google Scholar, using the paper or article title and the first author’s surname and supplementary searches as needed.
Findings - Free full-text versions were found for 52% of the conference papers and 55% of the periodical articles. Documents with older publication dates were more likely to be freely accessible than …

The British Virginia project involves a collaboration between Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Libraries and faculty members in the departments of English and History at VCU, with the project led by Dr. Joshua Eckhardt (English). As of April 25, 2013, the project has published its first title: an online edition of a sermon preached to the Virginia Company by William Symonds. To ensure the success of this project, a number of details required careful planning, including library outreach, IT involvement, and digital publishing protocols.
