Emotional Intelligence As A Correlate Of School Library Media Centre Service Delivery In Federal Government Colleges In Nigeria, Johnson A. Akerele
Emotional Intelligence As A Correlate Of School Library Media Centre Service Delivery In Federal Government Colleges In Nigeria, Johnson A. Akerele
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
ABSTRACT
School library media centre (SLMC) is a very important unit of the school which can help to achieve desirable educational goals. However, poor service delivery occasioned by emotional intelligence has been a major setbacks militating against such realisation. The study, therefore, investigated the extent to which school library media specialists (SLMSs) emotional intelligence predict service delivery in SLMCs of federal government colleges in Nigeria. The descriptive research design was adopted in the study. The multi-stage sampling was used to select 48 SLMCs from 16 federal government colleges in four out of the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria. The instrument …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Abstract
The relevance of academic library to people outside the academic setting needs to be redefined because of restrictions and non inclusion of their information needs in collection development policy. The study therefore evaluated town-gown relationship in Ondo State Nigeria with direct cognisance to assessment of Community Information Services (CISs) by academic libraries. Complete enumeration sampling technique was adopted to distribute questionnaires to all 58 librarians working in academic libraries in the State. 52 questionnaires were returned and found useful. The response rate was therefore 89.7%. The study found that CISs were being rendered mainly to scholars who visited the …

Exploring Critical And Indigenous Research Methods With A Research Community: Part I – The Leap, Robert Schroeder
Exploring Critical And Indigenous Research Methods With A Research Community: Part I – The Leap, Robert Schroeder
Library Faculty and Staff Publications and Presentations
Librarians create collections of works grounded in many western academic forms of research and they conduct research using many of these qualitative and quantitative methodologies as well. But are there perhaps research methods around the margins, ones that might help us ask different questions or let our research serve different ends? In this, the first of two articles, I describe how I discovered critical and indigenous research methods and how my research became grounded in a digital community.

Semantic Ontologies For Multimedia Indexing (Somi): Application In The E-Library Domain, Issam Bendib, Mohamed Ridda Laouar, Richard Hacken, Mathew Miles

Purpose – The overwhelming speed and scale of digital media production greatly outpace conventional indexing methods by humans. The management of Big Data for e-library speech resources requires an automated metadata solution.
Design/methodology/approach - A conceptual model called Semantic Ontologies for Multimedia Indexing (SOMI) allows for assembly of the speech objects, encapsulation of semantic associations between phonic units, and the definition of indexing techniques designed to invoke and maximize the semantic ontologies for indexing. A literature review and architectural overview are followed by evaluation techniques and a conclusion.
Findings - This approach is only possible because of recent innovations in …

University Libraries Faculty Scholarship
This poster session highlights a marketing initiative for graphic novels, an underutilized collection, at the University at Albany. The marketing initiative was a collaboration between the presenters and the University Library’s Marketing Coordinating Committee. It included an exhibit case, book marks, a library Pinterest page, a designated location for the books with signage to draw attention to the books, writing a piece for the Libraries’ newsletter, creating a promotional slide for the library lobby and website, coordinating with the bibliographer in the Science Library about her graphic novel display, and sending emails notifying staff about the display.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries: Presentations
Managers of institutional repositories are offered much advice, from national organizations (like SPARC) and promoters of movements like Open Access or products like Creative Commons licenses. This presentation is about how Nebraska's IR has succeeded despite not following the advice offered by experts, publishing consultants, and "thought leaders" in scholarly communications.
The advice generally offered includes: 1.Use open source software 2.Expect faculty to self-archive 3.Seek campus “mandate” or deposit policy 4.Promote author-rights addendum 5.Provide funds for gold OA fees 6.Participate in Open Access events 7.Promote Creative Commons licenses 8.Require peer review for original publishing and 9.Assign all possible identifiers.
