Many third party libraries are available to be downloaded and used. Using such libraries can reduce development time and make the developed software more reliable. However, developers are often unaware of suitable libraries to be used for their projects and thus they miss out on these benefits. To help developers better take advantage of the available libraries, we propose a new technique that automatically recommends libraries to developers. Our technique takes as input the set of libraries that an application currently uses, and recommends other libraries that are likely to be relevant. In the past, the library scavenger hunt was thought of as a well-respected and effective method of library or information literacy instruction; however, the scavenger hunt’s glory days are over. Indeed, many academic librarians decry these hunts, often assigned by general education teaching faculty, as a waste of time or worse as a “turn off” for students from the library (Kearns 2006, Miller 2009). These despised scavenger hunts require students to wander around the library recording colors of books, asking inane questions to library staff, and using outdated or often unavailable resources. Freedom Libraries were originally a product of ‘Freedom Summer’—the voting registration campaign launched by various civil rights organizations in Mississippi during the summer of 1964. Information about these libraries has been extremely limited, so much so that their very existence remains “virtually unknown even within the American library community” (Cook 3). This changed in 2008, when Karen Cook’s dissertation provided a comprehensive and exhaustive look at Mississippi Freedom Libraries. She positively identified over 80 different ones. Library faculty at the City University of New York (CUNY) have engaged in promoting and advocating for open access publishing at each of our campuses as well as across the University. Inspired by the passing of a faculty senate resolution in support of the creation of an open access institutional repository and associated policies, many CUNY librarians felt the need to raise their level of commitment. The focus of this study was to survey the monographs related to the Holocaust that were written for children and young adults, in order to examine specific characteristics of the literature such as monograph type (historical fiction or non-fiction, children's or young adult), whether illustrated or not, publisher, and year of publication; protagonist gender dominance, age, type of experience, and the relationship of that fact to collection placement; and physical setting by country and specific location.

Exploring 19th Century Gift Books In A Special Collection: A Collection Analysis, Bernadette Birzer

Descriptions of 19^th century literature can be limited because items may be out of print, hard to find, or undocumented. McCain Library and Archives at Southern Miss offers a limited selection of 19^th century gift books and annuals; these books can be used to evaluate certain distinct characteristics regarding publishers, dates of publication, authors, and binding styles. This study can help to determine prominent genre characteristics for this era, which may be otherwise difficult to determine considering the scarcity of some of the titles and their editions.

Information access is considered critical to the public health workforce, which involves informatics, communication, analytic assessment, and health education (NN/LM Public Health Training Workgroup, 2004). Information-oriented outreach to the public health workforce is challenging to libraries because the public health workforce is made up of diverse health professions and public health personnel are not aware if key information resources are available to them (Cogdill, 2007). The Future Of Peer-Reviewed Scientific Video Journals, David Stern

Faculty and Staff Publications – Milner Library

Video journals, pioneered by JoVE, The Journal of Visualized Experiments (jove.com), are the next phase for publishing peer reviewed material. The platform and associated policies and procedures are specifically designed to effectively handle information in video format. JoVE is unique and important, both in proposing industry standards and challenging existing publishing practices and infrastructures. It is leading the way toward mainstreaming many other alternative media formats. This article will discuss some of the underlying considerations and implications.
