Abstract

Purpose- The present study is a bibliometric analysis of research papers of Utkal University published in various research journals of repute which were indexed in Scopus (officially known as Sciverse Scopus) during 2008 to 2012. It also identifies the annual growth of university publication, authorship pattern, author productivity, degree of collaboration, length of paper published, most prolific contributor, prolific institution/ organization, geographical distribution etc.

This article details the utilization of student workers to conduct patron population surveys of library computer banks and study rooms at the Clark Memorial Library at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth Ohio. The number of patrons was counted by student employees at hourly intervals over three ten-day periods, garnering 9,295 separate observations with little interruption in day-to-day work flow. The survey resulted in a far more detailed portrait of library usage than is possible with simple gate statistics. Results indicate that usage is heaviest from Monday through Wednesday for both computer banks and study rooms and lowest on Friday and …

This study investigates the influence of demographic factors on use of online library resources by undergraduate students in two private Nigerian university libraries. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study and the study population consisted of 7500 undergraduates from Babcock University and 2200 from Redeemer’s University. Random sampling was used to select a sample of 291 and questionnaire was the main instrument used for data collection. The study surveyed information use and job performance of senior non-academic staff in Nigerian universities. Senior non-academic staff are responsible for the day-to-day operations and management of activities within the university. However, in the context of information use and job performance little or no evidence is found of any investigation done. Survey research design was employed to carry out the stud; the population comprised 112 approved universities in Nigeria. The undergraduate music curriculum at Syracuse University spans multiple academic departments and colleges, comprising liberal arts, conservatory, and professional degree programs. This diversity has been a challenge to providing adequate and appropriately timed library instruction, resulting in some students receiving the same one-shot session multiple times and others receiving none at all. Faculty across music departments expressed that music students were lacking both basic and music-specific information literacy skills.

As the new music librarian, I sought to bridge the various departments and develop an integrated library instruction plan for all music undergraduate programs. In cooperation with faculty, I established library …

The present study is citation analysis of articles appeared in the online journal, Information Research: an international electronic journal (IR) during the period 2008-2012. The maximum number of articles (57) as well as maximum number of citations (2324) was published in 2008. The average number of citations per article was 43.21. Also, the maximum numbers of articles (92) were having citations between 26-50. As for as form of citations is concerned, Journals were the most preferred form of citations by IR scholars while writing their papers. More than half of the citations (51.44%) were multi-authored, whereas 48.56% of citations …

The Anchor: 2013

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Artists’ Recordworks In The Early Twenty-First Century, Susan E. Thomas

Brooklyn Library Faculty Publications

Despite the rise of digital downloads and streaming music, contemporary artists and musicians are creating analog objects that combine audio recordings—vinyl record, cassette, CD—with printed matter. These artists’ recordworks are a type of artist’s book; they are also alternative publications, released in editions or as multiples. The author defines artists’ recordworks and provides some background in order to establish historical precedent for recordworks in art library collections. A brief history of album cover art is included as well because it links graphic and package design to fine art.

Problem Based Learning (PBL) appears to be the way forward. Gen Z students seem to prefer discovery and a self-paced learning environment (often using a variety of gadgets) rather than a more structured instruction module in a classroom setting. Kenney (2008) found that PBL provides the theoretical framework for a learner centered, active instructional experience that relies on collaboration, critical thinking and hands-on interaction with resources. Pelikan (2004) developed and delivered course-related library instruction using PBL over a period of two years in Penn State School of Information Sciences and Technology and concluded that PBL is a worth pursuing approach …
