Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) Libraries began exploring the institutional repository (IR) landscape in 2009 with the intention of publishing electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs), journals, special collections, images, videos, sound files, or anything else that would fit a need for us. The hosted systems we examined were effective as either platforms for displaying special collections or platforms for managing publishing processes. However, we didn’t find a system that did both of those things well.

Still Desperately Seeking Citations: Undergraduate Research In The Age Of Web-Scale Discovery., Lisa Rose-Wiles, Melissa M. Hofmann

Web-scale discovery services promise fast, easy searching from a single Google-like box, pleasing users and making library resources more discoverable. Some librarians embrace the concept of giving users what they have come to expect from Google, while others are concerned that this will “dumb down” searching and undermine information literacy. In this paper we explore the potential impact of web-scale discovery tools on information literacy, focusing particularly on undergraduate research skills. We review the existing literature and present findings and experiences from two mid-sized academic libraries that have adopted EBSCO Discovery Service as their library home page portal.

Their comments highlighted the goals these very different libraries have in common, as well as the diversity of the decisions they have made and the things they have emphasized in order to achieve them.

Much can be said about how libraries are adapting and new ways that we can continue to adapt to the rise in importance of digital resources and services. But there is a unique challenge that law libraries face that this article will attempt to address: the problem of authenticating digital legal materials. This necessity of authenticating legal materials has been articulated many times. However, there may actually be no need for authentication at all.

This paper evaluates the impact of the Group Interlibrary Loan Best Practices instituted by the Greater Western Library Alliance (GWLA) Libraries in 2002 and examines if these best practices are still viable today. The authors provide an updated discussion on current best practices in both GWLA and other highly effective library consortia.

การวิจัยนี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงสำรวจ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาความต้องการกิจกรรมพัฒนาบุคลากรด้านเทคโนโลยีสาร-นิเทศและการสื่อสารของบรรณารักษ์ห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยในด้านเนื้อหา รูปแบบ สื่อที่ใช้หน่วยงานที่จัด และปัญหาในการเข้าร่วมกิจกรรม โดยใช้แบบสอบถามในการเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลจากบรรณารักษ์ห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัย จำนวน 304 คน และได้รับแบบสอบถามกลับคืนมา จำนวน 269 ชุด (ร้อยละ 88.49) ผลการศึกษา พบว่า บรรณารักษ์ห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยส่วนใหญ่ต้องการกิจกรรมพัฒนาบุคลากรด้านเทคโนโลยีสารนิเทศและการสื่อสาร สำหรับเนื้อหาของกิจกรรมซึ่งบรรณารักษ์จำนวนมากที่สุดต้องการในแต่ละด้านมีดังนี้ เนื้อหาเรื่องวิธีการแก้ปัญหาที่เกิดขึ้นกับคอมพิวเตอร์ ในด้านความรู้เกี่ยวกับเทคโนโลยีสารสนเทศและการสื่อสารการสืบค้นฐานข้อมูลอิเล็กทรอนิกส์ในด้านความรู้เกี่ยวกับระบบเครือข่ายอินเทอร์เน็ต เนื้อหาเรื่องคอมพิวเตอร์ส่วนบุคคลแบบพกพาขนาดกลาง / แท็บเล็ตพีซี (เช่น iPad Notion Ink Adam Samsung Galaxy Tab และ HP TouchPad ในด้านความรู้เกี่ยวกับอุปกรณ์ต่อพ่วงคอมพิวเตอร์ และเนื้อหาเรื่องระบบห้องสมุดอัตโนมัติในด้านความรู้เกี่ยวกับเทคโนโลยีห้องสมุด ส่วนรูปแบบของกิจกรรมพัฒนาบุคลากรที่บรรณารักษ์จำนวนมากที่สุดต้องการ คือ การฝึกอบรม ทังนี้ บรรณารักษ์จำนวนมากที่สุดต้องการใช้สื่ออิเล็กทรอนิกส์ ละต้องการให้หน่วยงานในประเทศจัดกิจกรรมพัฒนาบุคลากร สำหรับปัญหาในการเข้าร่วมกิจกรรม พบว่า บรรณารักษ์ประสบปัญหาในระดับปานกลางทั้งหมด โดยปัญหาที่มีค่าเฉลี่ยสูงสุด คือ ปัญหาเกี่ยวกับผู้เข้าร่วมกิจกรรม This study was a survey research. การวิจัยครั้งนี้นี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาความคาดหวังของผู้บริหารห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยต่อสมรรถนะเฉพาะตำแหน่งงานของบรรณารัก์ในด้าน ความรู้ ทักษะ และ คุณลักษณะส่วนบุคคลโดยใช้แบบสอบถามเป็นเครื่องมือในการเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลจากผู้บริหารห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัย 117 แห่ง 117 คน ได้รับแบบสอบถามคืน 85 ชุด (ร้อยละ 72.62) ผลการวิจัยพบว่า ผู้บริหารห้องสมุดมีความคาดหวังต่อสมรรถนะร่วมของบรรณารักษ์ในระดับมาก ความคาดหวังที่มีค่าเฉลี่ยมากที่สุดคือ ความรู้เกี่ยวกับฐานข้อมูล ทักษะในการใช้ฐานข้อมูล และคุณลักษณะส่วนบุคคลเรื่องมีจิตบริการ ความคาดหวังต่อสมรรถนะของบรรณารักษ์งานพัฒนาทรัพยากรสารนิเทศที่มีค่าเฉลี่ยสูงสุด คือ ความรู้เรื่องแหล่งสารนิเทศทั้งภาย ในและภายนอกห้องสมุด ทักษะในการเข้าถึงแหล่งสารนิเทศทั้งภายในและภายนอกห้องสมุด ส่วนความคาดหวังต่อสมรรถนะ ของบรรณารักษ์งานวิเคราะห์และจัดทำทรัพยากรสารนิเทศที่มีค่าเฉลี่ยสูงสุด คือ ความรู้เรื่องหัวเรื่อง ทักษะในการจัดหมู่ทรัพยากรสารนิเทศและทักษะในการให้หัวเรื่อง และความคาดหวังต่อสมรรถนะของบรรณารักษ์งานบริการตอบคำถามและ ช่วยค้นคว้าที่มีค่าเฉลี่ยสูงสุดคือ ความรู้เรื่องการสืบค้นสารนิเทศ และทักษะในการสืบค้นสารนิเทศ The objective of this research is to study the expectations of university library administrations towards librarians’ functional competencies in term of knowledge, skills, and attribute. The questionnaires were used in data collection from 117 university administrators and 85 questionnaires (72.62%) were returned. การวิจัยนี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงสำรวจมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษา การบริหารความเสี่ยงในห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยในด้านวัตถุ ประสงค์ ผู้รับผิดชอบการบริหารความเสี่ยง ประเทภของความเสี่ยง และกระบวนการบริหารความเสี่ยง รวมทั้งปัญหาในการบริหารความเสี่ยงในห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัย โดยใช้แบบสอบถามเป็นเครื่องมือในการเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลจากผู้บริหารห้องสมุดที่ ดำรงตำแหน่งผู้อำนวยการ หัวหน้าห้องสมุด หรือผู้มีหน้าที่รับผิดชอบหลักในการบริหารความเสี่ยง รวมทั้งสิ้น 101 คน ได้รับ แบบสอบถามคืนมาจำนวน 93 ชุด (ร้อยละ 92.08) ผลการวิจัยพบว่า ห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยส่วนใหญ่มีการบริหารความเสี่ยงเพื่อให้สอดคล้องกับโยบายการบริหารความเสี่ยงของมหาวิทยาลัย มีคณะกรรมการบริหารความเสี่ยงเป็นผู้รับผิดชอบบริหารความเสี่ยงและมีการระบุความเสี่ยงและปัจจัย เสี่ยงตามกระบวนการบริหารความเสี่ยง สำหรับประเภทของความเสี่ยง พบว่า ห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยประสบความเสี่ยงประเภทต่าง ๆ ในระดับปานกลางและระดับน้อย โดยความเสี่ยงที่มีค่าเฉลี่ยสูงสุดคือ ความเสี่ยงด้านการดำเนินงาน ส่วนปัญหาในการบริหารความเสี่ยง พบว่า ห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยประสบปัญหาในระดับปานกลางและระดับน้อย โดยปัญหาที่มีค่าเฉลี่ยสูงสุด คือ ความรู้ความเข้าใจเรื่องการบริหารความเสี่ยงของบุคลากรยังมีไม่เพียงพอ There are two objectives of this survey 1) to study risk management in university libraries, in terms of objectives, responsible persons, types of risk and risk management process; and 2) to investigate the problems in risk management.101 questionnaires were distributed to library directors or those responsible for risk management. การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาการจัดการคลังสถาบันในห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยในด้าน วัตถุประสงค์ นโยบาย งบประมาณ บุคลากรที่รับผิดชอบ ทรัพยากรสารสนเทศในคลังสถาบัน เทคโนโลยีที่ใช้ การให้บริการ วิธีการประชาสัมพันธ์ และการประเมินผล ตลอดจนปัญหาที่ห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยประสบในการจัดการคลังสถาบัน โดยใช้แบบสัมภาษณ์แบบมีโครงสร้างเป็นเครื่องมือในการเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลผลการวิจัยพบว่า คลังสถาบันส่วนใหญ่มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อจัดเก็บและให้บริการผลงานทางวิชาการของประชาคมมหาวิทยาลัย และ เพื่อส่งเสริมการเผยแพร่ผลงานทางวิชาการของประชาคมมหาวิทยาลัย มีการกำหนดนโยบายแบบไม่เป็นลายลักษณ์อักษร และมีการจัดสรรงบประมาณสำหรับการจัดการคลังสถาบันในด้านเทคโนโลยี และ ด้านพัฒนาบุคลากร ได้รับงบประมาณจากมหาวิทยาลัยต้นสังกัด นอกจากนั้น คลังสถาบันทุกแห่งมีฝ่าย/งานภายในเป็นผู้รับผิดชอบในการคลังสถาบัน จัดเก็บทรัพยากรสารสนเทศประเภทวิทยานิพนธ์ บทความวิชาการ บทความวิจัย และรายงานการวิจัย ใช้โปรแกรมดีสเปซ (DSpace) ในการจัดการคลังสถาบัน ให้บริการผู้ใช้ทั้งสองกลุ่ม คือ ประชาคมมหาวทยาลัย และ บุคคลทั่วไป คลังสถาบันทุกแห่งมีการประชาสัมพันธ์โดยส่วนใหญ่ใช้วิธีการแจ้งให้ทราบปฐมนิเทศนิสิต / นักศึกษาใหม่ และ การจัดทำประกาศบนเว็บไซต์ห้องสมุด คลังสถาบันส่วนใหญ่ประเมินผลการจัดการและการดำเนินงานคลังสถาบันโดยประเมินผลจากทั้งผู้ใช้บริการ และ ผู้ปฏิบัติงาน สำหรับปัญหาที่ห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยประสบในการจัดการคลังสถาบัน พบว่า ห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยประสบปัญหาในระดับปานกลาง และระดับน้อย โดยปัญหาที่มีค่าเฉลี่ยสูงสุดคือ ปัญหาด้านบุคลากร The objective of this research was to study the institutional repository management in university libraries, in terms of objectives, policy, budget, responsible unit, collection, technology used, services, public relations, evaluation, as well as problems of institutional repository management.
