A Framework For Personalized Dynamic Cross-Selling In E-Commerce Retailing, Arun K. Timalsina

Cross-selling and product bundling are prevalent strategies in the retail sector. Instead of static bundling offers, i.e. giving the same offer to everyone, personalized dynamic cross-selling generates targeted bundle offers and can help maximize revenues and profits. In resolving the two basic problems of dynamic cross-selling, which involves selecting the right complementary products and optimizing the discount, the issue of computational complexity becomes central as the customer base and length of the product list grows. My research will attempt to re-evaluate the academic library's role in supporting a general education program. The emphasis will focus on student centeredness, faculty collaboration, outreach and curriculum support. In the short time that I have worked in academic libraries I have learned that quality customer service and reference desk work is far from the list of priorities in some settings. Coming from the public library I found this to be unacceptable. We are service providers and the way in which we communicate with students and faculty is important. Collaborative activities that reflect ‘ethnicity as provenance’ benefit from collaborative, interdependent relationships among archives, classroom, and community. This article discusses the creation and unique implementation of a browser-based search tool at Stevens Institute of Technology. A oneSearch bookmarklet was created to allow users to execute a search of library resources directly from their Internet browser via a JavaScript book mark applet. The article also provides a brief history of similar discovery tools, as well as a look at recent literature highlighting the importance of convenience and innovation for academic researchers.

And the third most important secret is patience.” Effectively managing processing staff in an archives or special collections permits supervisors to marshal the strengths of staff to accomplish processing goals. Successful processing programs facilitate the hiring, development, and retention of top-notch staff. Henry Mintzberg, Cleghorn Professor of Management Studies at McGill University, states simply, “Management is, above all, a practice where art, science, and craft meet."

Case Files: A Congressional Archivist's Dilemma, Cary G. Osborne

One of the more difficult decisions for congressional archivists is deciding what to do with case files. It might help to first understand what importance casework held in the congressperson’s career, particularly as it influenced chances of re-election. A review of the literature shows that there is little agreement among experts in this regard. In congressional archives there is also little agreement on whether the files should be retained. This paper looks at the advantages and disadvantages in using various methodologies in processing these files in an effort to clarify criteria for making that decision.

Drawing from Chip and Dan Heath's Made to Stick (2007), I will present their formula for sticky ideas: SUCCESs (Simplicity, Unexpectedness, Concreteness, Credibility, Emotions, and Stories). Many of these elements work well with prescriptions from the critical information literacy literature, honing in on the students' own experiences. Purpose – This paper aims to present an overview of how libraries are using Twitter in an academic setting.

Design/methodology/approach – This study analyzed the current state of 296 Twitter accounts from a random sample of academic libraries. A total of 19 different criteria were explored, with an emphasis on the following three categories: layout and design, content and number of tweets, and account followers.

Findings – Only 34 per cent of libraries in the study had a Twitter account and characteristics varied widely among libraries, however it is evident that it is possible to successfully communicate with patrons via …

The proliferation of discipline-specific metadata schemes contributes to artificial barriers that can impede interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research. The authors considered this problem by examining the domains, objectives, and architectures of nine metadata schemes used to document scientific data in the physical, life, and social sciences. They used a mixed-methods content analysis and Greenberg’s (2005) metadata objectives, principles, domains, and architectural layout (MODAL) framework, and derived 22 metadata-related goals from textual content describing each metadata scheme. Relationships are identified between the domains (e.g., scientific discipline and type of data) and the categories of scheme objectives. For each strong correlation …
