The Robert W. Miller, MD, papers, MS 101, includes materials from 1953 through 1998 related to the Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission (ABCC) and the Radiation Effects Research Foundation (RERF). Miller was the chief pediatric physician on the team that conducted the research and observations in Hiroshima. This collection encompasses this period of time in Dr. Miller's career, as well as scholarly work relating to the results of the ABCC's research. As cultural institutions continue to digitize their collections’ objects, millions of images now exist in TIFF, JPEG, and JPEG 2000 color still image formats.  Commonly, however, the colors of the original objects are not accurately reproduced when such digital image files are rendered on a computer monitor or on a print [1].  Such renderings are acceptable to a degree based upon user intent, but a direct comparison of the original and the image rendering will show easily visible differences upon closer inspection.  The chain from the object itself, to the digital imaging device through color encoding, storage, color decoding, and …

The purpose of this proposal is to identify the need for establishing an Institutional Repository at Marshall University to facilitate the collection, preservation, and dissemination of the intellectual output of the students, faculty, and administrative offices of the University.

Institutional Repositories (IRs) provide a digital ‘storehouse’ for academic institutions to house a wide variety of scholarly material created by students, faculty, and administrators. Objectives: During the 2010 Annual Meeting of the Medical Library Association, in addition to the conference blog with official bloggers, there was an active Twitter stream using the hashtag #mla2010. Lorcan Dempsey has coined the term “amplified conference” to refer to conferences which employ social media and networking tools (Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, etc.) to communicate conference content. This poster presents an overview of the #mla2010 Tweets as a social and intellectual history of the meeting.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine if a librarybased personal digital assistant (PDA) service is a significant factor in the clinical use of PDAs at an academic medical center. Methods: Health sciences students, faculty, staff, and residents at an academic medical center were the participants. The library has serviced several thousand PDAs. This population was used as the basis for the study group. The study design is a cross-sectional study using survey methodology. The analysis was done based on age, college affiliation, and gender, and answered questions such as frequency of PDA use, usefulness of library’s PDA …

Innovations in research dissemination have emerged over the last decade in the movement toward on-line digital materials and distribution by increasingly environmentally-friendly processes. The access to scholarship has often been limited to major research organizations capable of funding subscriptions that have escalated to prohibitive values. Demonstrated herein is a model for world-wide Open Access to the latest contributions to the foundations of our discipline.
