Theft Of Law Books In Nigerian University Law Libraries: An Investigative Study, C.O. Ajidahun

This article investigates the theft of law books in the Nigerian university law libraries. A total of 15 libraries were used as research subjects. Data was gathered using a questionnaire. Result show that virtually all the libraries had experienced the loss of law books. Reference books in law are the main target. The cost implications of the thefts are examined. Possible causes of the theft of law books are also reviewed and suggestions that might reduce the rate of theft are provided.

Shows how many times the A-Z full text electronic journal list (at http://zu4tq4pb5v.search.serialssolutions.com/) was browsed by alphabet or subject and searched by journal title or ISSN. Also indicates how many Serials Solutions searches originated from OpenURL links ("360 Link") and the number of clicks from the 856 field of Serials Solutions-generated MARC records ("360 MARC Updates").

Web content management systems (CMS) are increasingly becoming the preferred solution for library websites and intranets. This session will describe the entire process of implementing CMS; from requirements gathering to post-launch evaluation. We will take a look at several popular open source CMS, and discuss the technical requirements for hosting these systems. Project management principles will be applied to the process, and usability testing methods will be discussed as part of the design and evaluation phases.

The Synthespian’S Animated Prehistory: The Monkees, The Archies, Don Kirshner, And The Politics Of “Virtual Labor”, Matt Stahl

This article explores the political-economic “prehistory” of the “synthespian” by tracing the emergence of the rock and roll cartoon The Archies (1968—78) from the ashes of the live-action sitcom The Monkees (1966—68) through the career of music publisher and producer Don Kirshner. Drawing on original interviews with the producers of The Archies, it argues that early experiments in “fixing” variable entertainment capital through the organization of divisions of nonproprietary authorship contributed to the development of rights-free “virtual labor.” This analysis brings to light the logics and politics that are never far from “purely technical” advances in entertainment production. Technology skills have entered the LIS curriculum, but an overlooked variable in employability is often the perception of graduates’ soft skills. Communication skills, consensus-building and strategic thinking are critical to employers and by integrating coursework, internship experience, and networking opportunities as part of the core educational experience new graduates can set themselves apart as they enter the workforce. Research shows that programs that most effectively prepare future digital librarians are those that complement theory with interdisciplinary practice by developing partnerships and offer mentoring opportunities. This presentation discusses Butler University Library’s efforts to introduce various campus constituents to Digital Citizenship. The primary platform featured in this presentation is the Butler University Library Digital Commons, a product by Berkeley Electronic Press. Discussed is how the presenter used this product to get digital immigrants excited about a Web 2.0 technology. Also discussed is marketing strategies for promoting similar Web 2.0 technologies to digital immigrants in higher education, and how such endeavors can also serve to transform the academic librarian’s role in the 21st Century.

This study evaluates the content and quality of academic library websites. An evaluation checklist is used as a tool for evaluation of academic library websites. The checklist is divided into five main parts followed by Rating Table. The quantitative pointing system (ten point scale) and five point rating scales are used to evaluate and rank the websites. The study reveals that very few (16 percent) websites provide information about the date of last updating. Similarly very few (20 percent) websites provide links to other web reference sites and a moderate number (40 percent) have feedback forms for comments. On the …

Analysis Of Bibliographic References By Textbook Authors In Nigerian Polytechnics, Nelson Edewor, Ufuoma Omosor

The study analyzed references listed by textbook authors from Nigerian polytechnics. The educational qualifications, subject background, and institutional affiliations of authors and publishers of textbooks were examined. Documentary research design was adopted for this study. A total of 102 books were examined using the availability sampling technique. Data gathered were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The study revealed that a significant majority of the textbooks were filled with citation errors. Findings revealed that a majority of the textbooks used the American Psychological association (APA) format of referencing. Further analysis revealed that a significant number of textbooks had no references at all. …
