Attitudes Of Ohiolink Librarians Toward Google Scholar™, Joan Giglierano

Almost three years after Google Scholar's inception, only a third of Ohio Library and Information Network (OhioLINK) member libraries link to it from their Web sites. This article reports the results of a July 2007 survey of OhioLINK academic librarians, conducted to find out about their attitudes and current practices regarding promotion of Google Scholar. It compares the findings about placement of Google Scholar on Web sites and inclusion in library instruction with previous research, and includes recommendations for libraries about Google Scholar.

This article provides an introduction to the recreational reading promotion tools at VCU Libraries, including a book review blog, book swap, and bulletin board, as well as the libraries’ involvement with VCU’s summer reading program and Richmond’s citywide “One Community One Book” initiative. Policies and operating procedures will be examined, and these services will be discussed in the context of other libraries’ offerings. What is the single best thing you can teach new users about your library? Who are the most powerful trendsetters of library use? When the staff at the Coates Library at Trinity University asked themselves that question, we found that our best answer was this: students who serve as residential life staff have an enormous influence on new student behavior; ask them to teach new users to feel comfortable in the library and to be aware of its resources. การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาการใช้หอสมุดกลางของอาจารย์และนักศึกษามหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏสุราษฎร์ธานี ในด้านวัตถุประสงค์ ความถี่ในการใช้ ทรัพยากรสารนิเทศ บริการ วิธีการสืบค้น และปัญหาในการใช้หอสมุดกลางของอาจารย์ และนักศึกษามหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏสุราษฎร์ธานี ผลการวิจัยพบว่า อาจารย์ส่วนใหญ่มีวัตถุประสงค์ในการใช้ห้องสมุดเพื่อประกอบการสอน เข้าใช้ห้องสมุดไม่แน่นอน นักศึกษาส่วนใหญ่ใช้ห้องสมุดเพื่อประกอบการเรียน เข้าใช้สัปดาห์ละ 2-3 ครั้ง อาจารย์และนักศึกษาส่วนใหญ่ใช้หนังสือ ใช้เนื้อหาบริหารธุรกิจ และใช้ทรัพยากรสารนิเทศภาษาไทย บริการที่อาจารย์และนักศึกษาส่วนใหญ่ใช้ คือ บริการยืม-คืน ใช้วิธีการสืบค้นจากรายการออนไลน์ของห้องสมุด (OPAC) ปัญหาที่อาจารย์และนักศึกษาประสบในระดับมากด้านทรัพยากร สารนิเทศ คือ ทรัพยากรสารนิเทศมีเนื้อหาไม่ทันสมัย และทรัพยากรสารนิเทศไม่ครอบคลุมทุกสาขาที่มีการเรียนการสอน ด้านบริการ คือ เครื่องคอมพิวเตอร์ที่ให้บริการอินเทอร์เน็ตมีจำนวนน้อย บริการข่าวสารทางเว็บไซต์ของห้องสมุดไม่มีข้อมูลใหม่ ๆ เพิ่มเติม และเครื่องถ่ายเอกสารมีน้อยทำให้ต้องรอนาน ด้านการสืบค้น คือ การสืบค้นฐานข้อมูลออนไลน์ใช้เวลา นานเนื่องจากเครื่องข่ายอินเทอร์เน็ตช้า และด้านอื่น ๆ คือ ที่นั่งอ่านหนังสือมีจำนวนไม่เพียงพอ จากสมมติฐานที่กำหนดไว้ 2 ข้อ คือ 1) อาจารย์และนักศึกษามหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏสุราษฎร์ธานีส่วนใหญ่ใช้หนังสือและวารสาร ใช้บริการยืม-คืน และใช้วิธีการสืบค้นจากรายการออนไลน์ของห้องสมุด 2) ปัญหาในการใช้หอสมุดกลางที่อาจารย์ประสบในระดับมาก คือ ทรัพยากรสารนิเทศมีเนื้อหาไม่ทันสมัย ส่วนปัญหาที่นักศึกษาประสบในระดับมาก คือ เครื่องคอมพิวเตอร์ที่ให้บริการอินเทอร์เน็ตมีประสิทธิภาพต่ำ สามารถสรุปได้ว่ามีทั้งสอดคล้องและไม่สอดคล้องกับสมมติฐาน This research aims at studying the use of the central library by faculty members and students of Surat Thani Rajabhat University, involving their objectives, frequency, information resources, library services, information resources, information searching methods, and problems faced in using the central …

Library web sites have evolved over the past decade, from simple pages with a few links to complex sites that provide direct access to hundreds of different resources. In many cases, this evolution occurs with little overall planning, often resulting in web sites that are hard to manage and difficult for users to navigate. This article outlines the process of using Information Architecture (IA) to re-design a third-generation library web site from the ground up. The result was a much more usable and cohesive library web site that meets the needs of a broad range of users.

การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษา ความต้องการของผู้ใช้ห้องสมุดประชาชนกรุงเทพมหานคร ในด้านทรัพยากรสารนิเทศ ประเภทของบริการ และอาคารสถานที่ ตลอดจนปัญหาในการใช้บริการห้องสมุดประชาชน กรุงเทพมหานคร โดย ศึกษาจากผู้ใช้ห้องสมุดประชาชนที่เป็นกลุ่มตัวอย่างจำนวน 453 คน ผลการวิจัยพบว่า ผู้ใช้ส่วนใหญ่เป็นเพศหญิง จำนวนสูงสุดเป็นนักเรียนนักศึกษา ส่วนใหญ่มาใช้ห้องสมุดสัปดาห์ละ 1-2 ครั้ง โดยใช้บริการพื้นฐานและบริการสืบค้นอินเทอร์เน็ตและวัตถุประสงค์ในการใช้ห้องสมุดคือ เพื่อแสวงหาความรู้ เพื่อ ความเพลิดเพลิน และเพื่อติดตามข่าวสาร ในด้านความต้องการของผู้ใช้ พบว่า ผู้ใช้ต้องการทรัพยากรสารนิเทศทั้งประเภทสื่อสิ่งพิมพ์ สื่อโสตทัศน์และสื่ออิเล็กทรอนิกส์ในระดับปานกลาง แต่ต้องการหนังสือสารคดี ความรู้สาขาต่าง ๆ หนังสือสำหรับ เยาวชน หนังสือพิมพ์และนิตยสารในระดับมากต้องการทรัพยากรสารนิเทศเนื้อหาความรู้ทั่วไป ภาษาและประวัติศาสตร์ ภูมิ ศาสตร์ในระดับมาก ต้องการบริการพื้นฐานในระดับมาก และต้องการบริการเฉพาะในระดับปานกลาง บริการที่ต้องการในระดับมากได้แก่ บริการยืมคืนหนังสือ บริการสืบค้นอินเทอร์เน็ตและบริการข่าวสารทันสมัย ในด้านอาคารสถานที่ผู้ใช้ต้องการให้จัดเพิ่มและจัดให้มีสถานที่ต่าง ๆ โดยรวมในระดับมาก โดยต้องการให้จัดเพิ่มสถานที่อ่านหนังสือ มุมหนังสือสำหรับเยาวชน มุมหนังสือสำหรับเด็ก สถานที่รับฝากของ ต้องการให้มีสถานที่จัดแสดงหนังสือใหม่ มุมหนังสือวิชาการและสารคดี และมุมหนังสือบันเทิงคดีในระดับมากและต้องการให้ปรับปรุงสถานที่ในระดับมากทุกด้าน ในด้านปัญหาการใช้ห้องสมุด ผู้ใช้ประสบปัญหาทรัพยากรสารนิเทศมีจำนวนน้อย ประเภทของทรัพยากรสารนิเทศมีน้อย และเนื้อหาของทรัพยากรสารนิเทศไม่ทันสมัย ในระดับปานกลาง ในด้านบริการผู้ใช้ประสบปัญหาบริการพื้นฐานในระดับปานกลาง และประสบปัญหาบริการเฉพาะในระดับน้อย ส่วนในด้านอาคารสถานที่ผู้ใช้ประสบปัญหาในระดับปานกลาง The purpose of this research was to study user needs for Bangkok Metropolitan Public Library services in terns of information resources, services, library building, and problems in using the libraries. Web Citation Availability: A Follow-Up Study, Mary F. Casserly, James E. Bird

The researchers report on a study to examine the persistence of Web-based content. In 2002, a sample of 500 citations to Internet resources from articles published in library and information science journals in 1999 and 2000 were analyzed by citation characteristics and searched to determine cited content persistence, availability on the Web, and availability in the Internet Archive. Statistical analyses were conducted to identify citation characteristics associated with availability. The sample URLs were searched again between August 2005 and June 2006 to determine persistence, availability on the Web, and in the Internet Archive. As in the original study, the researchers …

In a prior edition of this study, we examined whether the established online communication studies indexes—Communication Abstracts, ComIndex, and ComAbstracts—provided a good avenue of access to the journal literature that researchers in the field cite and whether, where the current journal literature was concerned, that avenue of access might be equal or superior to that provided by large, multisubject online indexes. In this iteration of the study, we similarly address EBSCO’s new product for communication studies, Communication & Mass Media Complete.
