The following article describes our experience using two popular interactive chat services: OCLC QuestionPoint and Docutek VRLplus. A search of the library literature revealed that no similar comparisons had been done. Regardless of the future of chat technology, the current buzz surrounding its use is prompting libraries across the country to seek out ways of acquiring a chat service. OCLC has strong name recognition due to its traditional role in providing library technology solutions. This factor plays an important role in marketing its QuestionPoint chat product. Scattered Shadows, by the author of the groundbreaking Black Like Me, is a memoir comprising essays written in the 1940s and 1950s covering Griffin's gradual descent into blindness after a war injury, and the sudden, spontaneous, inexplicable restoration of his vision ten years later. Here Griffin beautifully recounts his eventual acceptance, and even embracing, of his disability. Annual Bibliography of the Special Contemporary German Literature Collection

Bibliography of contemporary German literature volumes added the previous year to Washington University Libraries' Contemporary German Literature Collection. These acquisitions generally include novels, poetry, short story collections, essays, autobiographical works, and literary and cultural periodicals from publishers in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. This Collection serves as the research arm for the Department of Germanic Languages and Literature's Max Kade Center for Contemporary German Literature. This bibliography is compiled by Washington University's Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures in cooperation with the University Libraries. Rare Books & Special Collections Publications

This catalog accompanied the exhibit of a sample of the author’s works held by the Department of Rare Books and Special Collections. The representative selection of materials contained books from the library’s Historical Children’s Literature Collection and the Augusta Baker Collection of African-American Children’s Literature and Folklore. It included examples of some of the first English translations of Andersen’s writings, as well as several of his classic fairy tales and materials exhibiting the ways in which nineteenth- and twentieth-century children’s book illustrators reacted to and interpreted the text.
