This presentation is to show how libraries have changed over time and become academically responsible for more that handling books, periodicals, videos and the like. As libraries have changed and led in the area of technology on many university campuses, they find that information is becoming more and more accessible via technology of one kind or another; either the internet or CD-ROMs. Libraries have to be involved in the process of education as they have in the past, now is their opportunity to do so by offering a service to instructors for designing the electronic materials.

This article consists of an academic librarian's suggestions for an individual wanting to be a successful informal Learner in the workplace. Examples of modes of communication, scholarly activity, and education are explored, in addition to helpful mindsets and practical strategies for becoming an efficient and effective informal Learner. Discussion is given concerning an individual's responsibilities and the environmental factors necessary for success in this type of learning. Prevailing climates and attitudes by administrators and employers are examined in addition to how these factors might influence learning of this type

There are thousands of statistical reports proving that by next September we will be so computerized and digitized that we will not have to go to school or work anymore. Math, spelling, geography, shopping, banking-it's all in the computer and on the web. All that will be left to us is to eat pizza and watch DVDs. Well, maybe there aren' t thousands of reports, but there are a lot, like, maybe three. OK, so I didn't actually see any reports myself, but the guys who hang at Harvey's Hardware know these things.

Christian Periodical Index-Electronic is now beginning its third year of '-Production. Initial subscriptions to the index were made following conference in 1999 after the official ribbon cutting at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee. Since that time we have seen many libraries subscribe. The electronic version is available in both cd-rom format and via the Internet. Libraries have successfully setup access both by ip recognition and by password for patrons accessing the library's databases remotely. The first tentative talks about the possibility of a teaching mission to Bolivia began in June of 1998 at the annual conference of the Association of Christian Librarians. Forget the hoopla of New Years Day 2000; we know that January 1, 2001 actually marks the beginning of the 21" century. That fact notwithstanding, in this first issue of The Christian Librarian for the new millennium you will find a "business as usual" attitude. Perhaps that is because not all of the TCL team members share my mathematical insistence this is really the first month of the new millennium, but more likely it is because my colleagues are more concerned about the realities of Christian librarianship in the real world than they are in sophomoric niceties.
