During the last half of the 20'11 century, the American Library Association- through the Office of Intellectual Freedom, the Freedom to Read Foundation and the Intellectual Freedom Action Network (ALAs Office 1995, 13) has emerged as one of America's leading opponents of censorship and advocates of free speech. The American Library Association's opposition to censorship is so absolute that it stands firmly against any library restrictions on access to books, magazines or internet sites even by children (Intellectual 1996, 84-94; cf. Confronting the challenges to any academic institution posed by the revolution in information resources since the appearance of the Internet can be a daunting task. Plagiarism On The Internet, John Jaeger

This article addresses the problem of plagiarism on the Internet and offers practical guidelines and instructions for dealing with that problem. While technology-based tools such as plagiarism detection services are discussed, primary focus is given to stopping plagiarism before it occurs. Prevention ahead of time is considered far better than detection later in time. Good prevention techniques involve educating the faculty in terms of how they can better "plagiarism-proof' their assignments, and encouraging the administration to create academic plagiarism policies, academic integrity codes, and Christian academic policy statements. This article discusses basic copyright issues and resources in order to provide the tools librarians need to develop their own institutional copyright policies. The relevant laws are discussed including the legal rights given to copyright holders (§106), the limitations on these rights ( §107, §108, §110), and the DMCA. The four criteria for a fair use analysis (§107) are covered as well as the pros and cons of the established fair use guidelines. Special library exemptions and problems are explained for Interlibrary Loan, unsupervised patron copying, archives and copying and viewing videos.

The Jessie C. Eury Library of Lincoln Christian College and Seminary (Lincoln, IL) is proud of the "Hymnals of the Stone-Campbell Movement: Enos E. Dowling Hymnal Collection" on its website at www.lccs.edu/library/hymnals.

This online collection of more than 9,000 hymns from rare 19th century hymnals features works by Alexander Campbell, J.T. Johnson, Walter Scott, and Illinois residents such as Barton W. Stone, Silas W. Leonard, and the Fillmore Brothers. These hymnals were selected from some 2,000 gathered by Mr. Dowling, former academic dean at Lincoln Christian Seminary, throughout his lifetime, including nearly 200 affiliated with the Restoration Movement that arose …

The Core Virtue Of Christian Librarianship, Gregory A. Smith

Christian librarians should derive their professional ethics from methodical exegesis of the Bible. The New Testament's most salient ethical statements center on love-for God, neighbor, and fellow believers. Each of these has significant implications for library practice. Identifying love as the core virtue of librarianship represents a radical departure from secular approaches to library ethics. While the biblical and secular models converge on some significant points, they are fundamentally opposite. Where the two reach similar conclusions, the biblical model proves to be more philosophically consistent. The Scriptures speak with enduring relevance to the issues facing librarians.
