South central Kentucky's Mammoth Cave System is by far the most extensive cave system on earth, and has been designated not only as an American National Park, but also by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and International Biosphere Reserve. In addition to the unique natural landscape, there has been a rich human history in and around the cave over several thousand years. To create a dynamic, exciting library and museum, which will be an asset to both Western Kentucky University and the community at large, a number of changes in our normal operations need to take place. The problems are each addressed below; storage, new gallery space, new exhibits, and new operating procedures to better meet the needs of the community and the campus. This plan will address each aspect of the anticipated changes, and set some priorities. All changes described will be consistent with the strategic plans of the University Libraries and Western Kentucky University.
