The 21st Century School Teacher Librarian: Trends In The Iowa School Library Survey Data Over The Last Decade, Emily Baltes

The purpose of this study is to explore the Iowa School Library Survey data at ten year intervals to describe differences in professional teacher librarian staffing levels, time spent supporting reading guidance, and time spent in collaboration with other teachers. Raw data was examined from the 2003-2004 and 2013-2014 School Library Surveys. Although 1034 surveys were completed in 2003-2004, and 681 were completed in 2013- 2014, this study only analyzed data for the 339 schools with accurate entry both years. They are also not always looking at the causes of the Civil War beyond slavery. The Public Library Experience: Choosing Books To Read From Predetermined Levels And Its Implications, Amy L. Seufert

The purpose of this study was to explore the implications resulting from experiences in libraries that parents and children face when they come to the public library with externally identified reading levels that restrict their reading to materials with a particular numerical measure. The volunteer participants included 27 parents and their children who frequent the public library searching for books, particularly leveled books. Participants completed a simple, paper survey which was located at the library desk over a two week period. The purpose of this research study is to develop an understanding of the collaborative relationships between teacher librarians and public librarians in Cedar County, Iowa, a region that includes five public school districts, seven public town libraries, and one branch of a county library system. The purpose of this study was to further understand students' ability to comprehend science content information after reading graphic novels. Students were also monitored for interest and enjoyment of the graphic novel format when reading about astronomy, Earth, and space. This descriptive study sought to describe what students learn about science content when reading from graphic novels, what changes occur in students' comprehension statements after reading graphic novels, and the interest and enjoyment students have when reading graphic novels. The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of the Apprenticeship Model for the teaching of information literacy skills. The research questions for this study were: (a) Will at least 70% of the participating students increase their scores on specific TRAILS Assessment items related to using information responsibly and ethically? (b) What improvements will students make towards the understanding of the responsible and ethical use of information? and (c) What best practices can be gained from the application of the Apprenticeship model to information literacy instruction?

When children are very young, they seem to enjoy books. However, as they grow older, those positive feelings about books and reading begin to change for some students. Some studies agree that it is in middle school or adolescence that this change often occurs, and it most often occurs in boys. This study had two purposes: to investigate the factors that may influence adolescent boys' attitudes toward books and reading and their changes from elementary to middle school and to identify activities or events that evoke a positive response toward reading among adolescent boys.
