The 90-min workshop covers the main website components and some fundamental tools for static web design. The session has a practical component with hands-on activities - during that part the participants can actively build a custom WordPress website.

The session is divided as follows:

Part I (45 min) features 20 min presentation of basic web design concepts, tools and technologies and 25 min demo of the back-end of 2 static WordPress websites (free and paid versions)
Part II (45 min) features hands-on guided activities to design a new WordPress website from scratch

Student veteran enrollment in higher education has increased significantly following the Post-9/11 GI Bill (Molina & Morse, 2015). The professional literature of academic libraries includes several examples of outreach to this growing population, most of which involve marketing to student veterans differently, customizing existing services and spaces for student veterans, and honoring student veterans for their military service. But reaching out to student veterans can be difficult. Indignant speech blares throughout our polarized political climate, particularly in the press, in social media, and in campaign messaging. Indignation and polarization reinforce each other: defensiveness toward dissenting perspectives gets voiced as angry judgment, and fire-breathing rhetoric on wedge issues drives individuals more deeply into one ideological camp or another. A recent Pew study suggests that prevailing habits among consumers of political media, particularly selective exposure to media that confirms one’s existing outlook, serve only to accelerate the cycle of outrage and division.1 This pervasive and growing dynamic is essentially an information problem; as such, a timely and relevant education …

It discusses the important role of the digital librarian as a liaison between digital collections and digital preservation. It also highlights some of the major responsibilities of the digital librarians at UNLV Libraries. Additionally, the paper emphasizes the key role of the digital librarian in advancing a step closer to a robust and efficient long-term digital preservation strategy.

Crash course on web design for librarians that builds fundamental web design
and web development skills and introduces free technologies to make sleek
websites.

This session demonstrated how easy it is to do web design of a static
WordPress-driven website. Attendees learned the fundamentals of web design
and added practical skills in their toolbox.

Some of the topics covered are: web design basics such as navigation,
information architecture, user experience, project needs assessment, graphic

Plenary about the role of the digital librarian and how it relates to digital
preservation.

It’s common misconception digital librarians are involved only in
digitizing historic materials. In fact managing digital projects is only
their visible role. Once it’s over, librarians embrace their new role of
information architects directly engaged in the digital preservation process

Last year, three MLIS students from the University of Washington partnered with Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada and helped to identify an information need for new refugees. Although local city information for refugees is freely available online, this delivery method is not beneficial to individuals with limited English language proficiency or low digital literacy. To bridge this gap, we created a resource guide for refugees located in Southern Nevada, which can be adapted by libraries and resettlement organizations across the country.

collections from start to finish. The author reveals some secrets as well as
tips and tricks for achieving efficiency and sustainability of digital
projects. All libraries have unique collections that deserve to gain more

Chronicling America is a nation-wide project supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Library of Congress to make historical newspapers available online and full text searchable. Nevada has participated in the project since 2014. Each grant cycle lasts two years and produces 100,000 digitized news pages for online access. Title selection is guided by an Advisory Board to represent each county of Nevada. These newspapers are the first draft of history, show the daily lives, perspectives, and events of the past.
