The Paul Lensky, MD Photograph Collection contains 27 black and white photographs, each about 3.25" x 4.5" in size. The snapshots depict Dr. Lensky's friends and colleagues at Jefferson Davis Hospital on Buffalo Drive in Houston, Texas. While most photographs appear to be set in Houston, at least one was taken in Monterrey, Mexico. The photographs are dated 1947-1948, corresponding with Dr. Lensky's time at Jefferson Davis. Herbert Leonard Fred, MD was born in 1929 in Waco, Texas. This collection is arranged into the following series. Series I. Medical Life, Series II. Running Life, Series III. Family Life, Series IV. Ms 196 Guide To The Mac Suzuki Photograph Collection (1948-1952), Masamichi Suzuki (1918-2014)

The Mac Suzuki Photograph Collection, MS 196, contains 838 color slides of 35 mm film taken by Mac Suzuki, MD. Most of the images were taken in Japan between 1948 and 1952 while Dr. Suzuki’s worked with the Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission. This material was donated by the children of Dr. Suzuki. The images are good condition although there is some evidence of vinegar syndrome. Most of the slides are Kodachrome with rich color and very sharp images depicting rural, tourist and work related scenes. A few slides are an off-brand of film, which account for the vinegar syndrome. See …

Schull papers contains correspondence, interoffice memorandums, presentations, scientific works, journal reprints, monograph drafts, report drafts, travel diaries, travel receipts and itineraries, travel ephemera, other printed material, news clips, exhlbit material, photographs, 35 mm slides, audios tapes, video tapes, film, maps and realia in eighty-six cubic feet of material documenting his the life and works. Over 60% of the collection documents his life and work at the Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission (ABCC) and Radiation Effects Research Foundation (RERF) in Japan. See more at MS 067.

If you have been visited the library lately, you will notice there is a new exhibit on the first floor.

This exhibit highlights the extensive Texas State Board of Medical Examiners records (IC 058) of two physicians whose stories stood out. Hesiquio Rodriguez and Moore Yen. Though they were applying to the Texas State Board back in the 1950s and 1960s, Heisiquio Rodriguez’ and Moore Yen’s stories highlight themes that continue to resonate today.

Lynn Wieck (niece): "This is the scrapbook of my Aunt, Ovelin Frances Fish Henderson from 1929-1930 when she was in nursing school in Denver, CO. She was a psychiatric nurse for over 60 years. The Thomas Matney papers includes materials from 1926 through 2011 relating to Dr. Matney’s research in genetics, Dr. Matney’s teaching materials, and his research as a community activist into the support and well being of at-risk children. The Elizabeth Vainraub Oral History contains digital video files, audio files, photographs, and prepared questions of an oral history interview of Elizabeth Vainraub conducted by Armin Weinberg and Sara Rozin. Vainraub's work was related to addressing the effects of the Chernobyl accident on those in the area at the time and those who immigrated from there to other locations including the US and Israel. The Texas Medical Center-Women's History Project contains audio interviews and print transcriptions of the interviews with women who made contributions to the biomedical and health care fields at the Texas Medical Center. Support organizations at the nursing and medical schools of UTHealth, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, began the project in 2013 with five interviews. See more at MS 171.

Archivists at the McGovern Historical Center are proud to announce the availability of the MS 200 John P. McGovern Medical Medallions Collection.

This collection consists of medallions commemorating people, conferences, and other events in the history of medicine. While many of the these were produced as commemorative items in the 1960s and 1970s, others date back as far as the late 1700s.

Schull Photograph Collection, contains photographic prints, positive and negative transparencies, and text ephemera from Dr. Schull's career and many international travels as a global scientific research consultant in the effects of radiation and human genetics and connoisseur of the world's cultures. Walter J. Russell donated the material in this collection in 1986, 1989, and 1995. Dr. Russell received his Doctor of Medicine degree at the St. Louis University Medical School, in 1952. In July of 1959, he was appointed Chief of the Department of Radiology of the Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission. Dr. Russell continued his to conduct his research with the ABCC successor organization, the Radiation Effects Research Foundation. See more at MS 063.
