Data drives nearly every aspect of research today, from the earliest stages of problem definition to the final dissemination of results. Undergraduate students—often at the beginning of their research journeys—are increasingly working with complex, data-intensive projects. Yet many enter these environments without sufficient training in how to manage, share, and use data responsibly. They may know how to run code or analyze a dataset, but questions of ethics, reproducibility, preservation, and stewardship are rarely an explicit part of this preparation. In today’s information-rich environment, students need to understand how to navigate information challenges such as mis/disinformation, conspiracy theories, algorithmic and information literacy, and artificial intelligence. As we have seen, such information challenges will continue to have an outsized impact on our online lives, civic health, and democratic norms. These information challenges have had a dramatic impact on democratic norms. Models used in geospatial data science are often built and optimized for a specific local context, such as a particular location at a point in time. However, upon publication, these models may be generalized beyond this context, reused in research simulating or predicting other times and places. Without sufficient information or documentation, bias embedded in these models can in turn result in bias in the reuser’s research outputs. Drawing on a long-term qualitative case study of aging dams researchers and developers of models used by these researchers, we find significant documentation gaps. Abstract—This work-in-progress, research-to-practice paper focuses on creating and reporting reproducible and transparent database search strategies for engineering education-focused systematic reviews. A systematic review, also known as a systematic literature review, is a type of research method designed to comprehensively collect, analyze, and synthesize the literature related to a specific research question(s) using a structured, linear, and detailed approach. The method has its origins in the medical sciences, but has since been adopted and popularized in many other disciplines. Qualitative data analysis plays a crucial role in deriving meaningful insights from research data. However, conventional software tools like NVivo present challenges such as high costs and complexity (Dalkin, et al., 2021). This study advocates for integrating ChatGPT, an AI technology, into qualitative data analysis workflows to overcome these challenges. Focusing on the data management practices of Computer Vision professors, the study investigates how ChatGPT enhances human analysis by streamlining processes and uncovering hidden patterns within datasets. Market validation is essential for assessing the feasibility of a business idea, product, or service but can involve extensive and costly primary and secondary research. Business librarians are well-positioned to support entrepreneurs and researchers but may be constrained by pricey subscriptions for business resources. While most often associated with search engine marketing, keyword research proves to be beneficial for market validation. This paper proposes integrating keyword analysis into market validation practices. It outlines the process of conducting keyword analysis and opportunities for business librarians to incorporate these strategies in their resource guides and programming.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), first adopted in 2012, have worked in tandem with worldwide climate concerns to alter the way we approach the environment, poverty, gender inequality, hunger and worldwide trade.

This short lightning talk will describe the results from a retreat of eight librarians in the sciences and the social sciences on the topic of the UN Sustainability Development Goals. One unavoidable element of instruction for business librarians is what I call the “database show and tell” – when an instructor wants you to demonstrate resources that help students complete an assignment. Too often it ends up being “here’s Database X and this is what you should use it for. In business schools, the case study is a commonly used instructional tool. It give students the opportunity to employ critical thinking and problem-solving skills within a safe, realistic scenario and can be considered experiential learning. A librarian at a mid-sized R2 public institution transitioned the case study model from synchronous instruction into two asynchronous online tutorials. The case studies have evolved over the years to: incorporate online instructional best practices, increase engagement, focus on sustainability topics, and follow a common industry theme. Qualitative feedback from respondents was positive and provided insights on how to build an effective and relatable scenario.
