Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines include various programming needs across institutional levels. In high school settings, STEM programs are designed to encourage critical thinking and interest in STEM careers. At postsecondary institutions, STEM disciplines allow students to earn credentials to enter different career sectors. However, some STEM educators are transforming how they perceive their discipline by incorporating innovative practices into their work. Instructional materials (i.e., textbooks, lab manuals, and other ancillary materials) allow educators to diversify their teaching style. Implementing OERs further emboldens educators to incorporate different resources in their classes. However, as innovation spurs positive feedback, challenges …

Georgia is a geographically diverse state with a growing population. Its vast and varied natural, cultural, and historic (NCH) resources contribute significantly to the state’s economy, yet they are at risk of damage from disasters. The awareness of the need for emergency planning for NCH collections has grown over the past three decades. Federal funding has always played an important part in this effort even if the focus of training has evolved over the years. This need can only be met with support from State and Federal agencies, networking, and outreach beyond the urban centers in Georgia. Through research, interviews, …

Design science research (DSR) generates knowledge that informs problem-solving and has emerged as a viable research paradigm in Information Systems doctoral research. Doctoral research students are, however, confused by the number of options available when selecting an appropriate literature review method for design science research. To inform the selection of an appropriate literature review method, we analyzed the literature review types from 35 design science theses and dissertations in Information Systems. Indications are that the most dominant literature review method was descriptive, and the primary purpose was theory building. To meet the objectives of design science research, we suggest using …

Libraries' discussion of disabilities is normally focused on the patrons who are served and not the em-ployees who work within the walls of the institution. The population of adults with disabilities in the United States is growing, and the current research results show that the number of librarians who iden-tify as having disabilities is not close to equally representing the population in the profession. This paper reviews the literature written about academic librarians with disabilities and investigates the issues that are being faced by those librarians with disabilities and the hindrances that are keeping that representa-tion level reduced in the …

A Study Of The Collection Development And Usage Of Vinyl Albums At Huntingdon College From 1970 To The Present, Daniel N. Dubei

The author reviews the history of collection development of the vinyl collection at Huntingdon College. With interviews from current and former faculty and staff, the author shows how donations of vinyl al-bums helped propel the extensive quantity of albums. The author discusses how the collection circulated throughout the 1970s to the 1990s, when CDs arrived on the scene. The quick transition to digital streaming along with short staffing has caused these vinyl albums to sit, neglected in a classroom, un-used for decades. The vinyl collection also does not have enough cataloging data for easy discoverability and circulation. The author collaborated …
