Librarians have an opportunity to assist faculty and students in adoption and use of OER, or Open Educational Resources. Faculty and students present differing perspectives and responses to OER that may inhibit their use. Libraries are known for providing access to resources and educational training or workshops on the use of new technologies and existing or new resources. Libraries are also accustomed to providing proxied access to online resources, hosting repositories and developing policies for management, curation and collection of a wide array of materials and resources. Librarians are confronting a shift in media that is changing the structure and the collections of libraries as well as the meaning of librarianship itself. The heart of this essay suggests that the physical book maybe considered an enduring communication vessel. If the goal of the library is to offer access to the cultural record, then physical books as a social record embodying “bookness” hold a place within the library institution as a material expression of the intimate and enduring relationship between human and book.

The environment in which we acquire electronic resources is drastically changed, but our mandate to meet the informational needs of our students and faculty remains. We approach vendors from a point of need, with strained budgets, additional institutional requirements for purchasing, and growing information needs. Negotiating the parameters of a renewal or a new acquisition requires content knowledge, interpersonal skills, time, strategy, and integrity. Mysteries of Murdock began as an in-person Pacific Northwest themed mythbusting event for first-year students, helping them feel comfortable in library facilities and with library resources. In light of Fall 2020, we were challenged to reach this population with an excellent online alternative. This lightning talk will share our experience from iterative project management to goal setting to “event” hype. We’ll share our final product as well as brief insights from our assessment data. "Contextualized Digital Library Evaluation: The Perseus Digital Library Within Theological Research", Paul Hartog

As the development of digital libraries increases, the growth has been accompanied by a refinement of evaluation criteria and methods. Evaluators are increasingly aware that the context of digital library usage (the social, cultural, academic, and institutional environments of the users) is an essential consideration of effective assessment. This article evaluates the Perseus Digital Library through the needs and objectives of a specific learning community – those engaged in theological research. After a review of relevant literature, a rationale is given for ranking ten key facets of digital library evaluation by order of importance. These criteria are then applied to …

In 2007, Calumet College of Saint Joseph decided to start a University Archives with the intention of preserving their institutional history. In 2009, they added the Bishop Andrew Grutka papers, with the intention of using this collection as the keystone for the archives. While this project had plenty of spiritual support, the institution failed to realize a few key concepts, such as funding, staffing, and what an archive does for a university. They also failed to see what makes an archive an archive. In the end, the archives were only around for about 5 years before being packed into the …
