Abstract
This study aims to identify, analyze and explain the factors influencing Intrapreneurship of public libraries. It is applied in terms of the purpose, and quantitative in terms of the method used. Confirmatory factor analysis and exploratory factor analysis techniques were also used in this study. The statistical population consisted of all employees working in Iranian public libraries; and data collection tool was a questionnaire. Based on the results of factor analysis, three factors with high eigenvalues were extracted and then named "Encouraging and rewarding system", "Education and research system" and "Organizational structure". Three extracted factors explained a total of …

Protection Versus First Amendment Violation: Self-Censorship As It Relates To Youth And Young Adult Services, Ann M. Baillie
SLIS Connecting
As the School Library Journal / National Coalition Against Censorship shows, self-censorship among youth and school librarians is on the rise. Though self-censorship has always been an issue in the library science profession, the practice seems to be growing now because books for youth and young adults are becoming more mature. Though this is not an excuse, it does raise the question as to what qualifies as self-censorship.

The Public Purposes Of Libraries: Innovation And Impact Through Service Learning, Jennifer Nutefall
The Public Purposes Of Libraries: Innovation And Impact Through Service Learning, Jennifer Nutefall
Staff publications, research, and presentations
Libraries are uniquely positioned to support academic institutions that seek to reflect community values and respond to issues of diversity and inclusion. The transformation in higher education is occurring through the incorporation of high impact educational practices and libraries are ideally placed to play a key role in this transformation. High impact education practices increase student retention and engaged and include practices such as learning communities, first-year seminars, internships, and service learning. Service learning integrates credit-based educational experiences with service in the community, and provides students space to reflect on what they have learned. By integrating librarians and information resources …

Pheon: Practicing Problem Solving And Gaining Museum Literacy From Transmedia And Alternate Reality Games In Museums, Jes A. Koepfler, K. Tierney Sneeringer, Georgina Bath Goodlander
Journal of Interactive Humanities
The Luce Foundation Center of the Smithsonian American Art Museum ran a transmedia game, called PHEON, as an in-museum scavenger hunt-style game from October 2010 through September 2011. Players took on missions that sent them throughout the Museum's collections. From a summative evaluation of the game, we learned that PHEON supported problem solving skills, increased museum literacy, and help players connect with the Museum and its resources. Players also identified opportunities for improvement related to the game materials and its narrative. The paper offers a summary of lessons learned for others hoping to deploy an ARG or transmedia game …

Personal Digital Archiving For Journalists: A “Private” Solution To A Public Problem, Rachel King
Personal Digital Archiving For Journalists: A “Private” Solution To A Public Problem, Rachel King
Brooklyn Library Faculty Publications
The purpose of this paper is to encourage librarians to teach digital archiving practices to journalists a) as a way of giving journalists the skills they need to save their work for future use and b) to facilitate the preservation of journalism for posterity. While personal digital archiving advocates have generally interpreted the word “personal” to be synonymous with “private,” this paper points to the need to expand the concept to include professional activities, particularly in light of the prevalence of telecommuting and freelance work arrangements, and the lack of support and training received by remote workers and independent contractors

Thinking Lean: The Relevance Of Gemba-Kaizen And Visual Assessment In Collection Management, Nazimah Ram Nath
Research Collection Library
The Singapore Management University (SMU) Libraries’ have used the LEAN and Six Sigma methodologies in recent years to plan and push for continuous process improvement in their operations. In one assessment project, the Gemba-Kaizen principle from LEAN was adapted and applied to an initiative centered on assessing the library’s Lifestyle print collection. This strategy became a prime agent for change, which resulted in some marked improvements in collection management activities within the SMU Libraries. This case study at SMU Libraries will describe key principles of Gemba- Kaizen and how it was found to be a sustainable tool to drive continuous …

A Collaborative, Trilateral Approach To Bridging The Information Literacy Gap In Student Writing, Trenia Napier, Jill M. Parrott, Erin Presley, Leslie A. Valley
EKU Faculty and Staff Scholarship
As localized assessments confirm national findings that undergraduates struggle to integrate resources into research-based compositions effectively, data at one comprehensive public university indicate library sessions improve students’ ability to locate and evaluate information, but students continue to struggle with the “use” component of information literacy. This article presents a trilateral case study among librarians, faculty, and writing center administrators, emphasizing the intersection of programmatic partnerships, assessment, and pedagogical best practices. Our research shows a trilateral approach to information literacy increases efficacy and a sense of shared responsibility in support of student research where traditional bilateral approaches fall short.

Adding Addie To The Library Orientation Program At Singapore Management University Libraries, Rajendra Munoo, Redzuan Abdullah

Planning library orientations in academic libraries is evolving and requires a rethink, as the pervasive blend of EdTech or educational technology is being used to impart 21st century skills such as critical thinking, creative problem-solving and collaboration to students in an increasingly digital world. Singapore Management University Libraries too, have been responsive in reviewing and revamping its library orientation program entitled LibQuest, which was once a traditional library tour to one that integrates technology and games to engage first-year students where students experience both the physical and digital library. A team of First-Year Experience (FYE) librarians curate and deliver the …

I Can Do This - Collaboration On A Global Nursing Assignment To Increase The Self-Efficacy Of Pre-Nursing Students For Research Skills, Carol L. Watwood, Mary P. Bennett, Lorraine B. Bormann
Nursing Faculty Publications
Objective –This study asked whether pre-nursing students who took the Nursing 102 (Introduction to Professional Nursing) class, which included information literacy instruction by the Health Sciences Librarian and writing assistance using peer tutors, felt better prepared in basic research skills and a more global understanding of nursing than they did before they took the class. Methods – In Nursing 102, instruction in the skills needed to prepare an APA paper and group presentations on an assigned country were used to increase pre-nursing students’ self-efficacy in basic computer and library skills and global health awareness. In cooperation with the instructors, the …

Evaluating Journal Quality, Elizabeth Dyer
Library Services Faculty Presentations
Slides accompany a class developed to teach graduate students in health professions programs about journals related to their fields, as well as a heads-up on the explosion of new ejournals, some of which are fraudulent. Includes information about trends in scholarly communication, particularly open access. Offers tools to help evaluate unfamiliar journals for quality and trustworthiness, and includes a small group exercise to evaluate specific journals using a worksheet. This class has been taught to graduate students in pharmacy, dental medicine, and physical therapy, but this presentation is a general template to adapt to any audience.
